The three stories relate incredible bravery of three characters. There is the wise princess who must fight beast, man, sorcerer and politics to save her kingdom. Then an eloping village girl who leads a group of children to escape the blue eyed invaders; it costs her dearly. Finally a palace lad who enters the palace guard training, taunted for among other things carrying a blanket made for him by the queen. The back stories include the foolish royal father who let his kingdom grow weak, the physically abusive village priest who beats his daughter and a businessman who disfigures his pregnant daughter for her failure to bring him wealth. The latter two are killed by the daughters in order to escape. Greek tragedies clothed in modern gender politics and placed in medieval kingdoms.Very intense
