About this listen

A new steamy second chance hockey romcom standalone!

There’s absolutely no way I’d ever work for my ex-boyfriend. Besides, the only thing he needs help with is pulling the stick from his perfectly sculpted backside.

Gordon Benson is the one man I never wanted to see again. He’s grumpy, antagonistic, and so irritatingly more attractive than he was 12 years ago. Those biceps, that muscular chest, those dark green eyes that still manage to get me all twisted up…it’s not fair.

I broke up with him. He demolished my heart. End of story.

Or at least it was until I ran into him after a figure skating gig. And then his sister offered me a job as their executive assistant—a job I didn’t need until the company I worked for went bankrupt.

So, here I am, selling my soul to the actual Devil to make sure me and my daughter are taken care of. The daughter who shares his DNA and yet he acts like she doesn’t exist. I keep telling myself this job is only temporary, that I’ll find something else, but the more I stay here, the more the Nashville Devils feel like family.

And maybe there’s more to Gordon than insults and a prickly exterior. Maybe he’s not quite the villain I made him out to be but there’s still too much at stake. He could lose his hockey team and I could lose the only thing I have left. My heart.

Love Benson & Riley

A great second chance love story!

Gordon Benson inherited a professional hockey team, Nashville Devils, after his father's death. When his high school sweetheart, who he hasn't seen in over a decade, accepts a position in the Devils organization, Gordon and Riley must now work together. For difference reasons, the hurt and heartbreak is still raw between them all these years later, but when the truth finally comes out, not only do Gordon and Riley get their second chance, Gordon finally meets his 11 year old daughter he knew nothing about.

Awesome narration by Alan Stone and Kristie Lee Walsh.

Broody Gordon

This was such a great listen. The grumpy Gordon finally gets his girl. The emotions in this book is great. Misunderstandings and someone against their love caused so much heartache. They lost so much time but it was everything to see how they come together and got their HEA. Narrators were great and definitely recommend.

Heartbreaking

This is the second book I've read/listened to by Melissa Ivers. I love the single parent storyline and my heart broke for the characters. I enjoyed the owners story. It was an excellent standalone. I am happy I got to listen to it without many interruptions!

Alan Stone and Kristie Lee Walsh are excellent narrators. Both are new to me and I loved their voices.

Book 5 - Nashville Devils

This is book 5 in Ivers' Nashville Devils series and a wonderful addition to the series. While this can be read as a standalone, I love that we have some repeat characters. I adore our main characters Riley and Max. Riley is a protective single mom, and Max is a grumpy owner of the NHL Devils team. In this second chance romance read / listen lies and deception are revealed, and past hurts are soothed and healed. I love the support and comradery of our secondary characters - friends and family of these two - which brings not only an emotional healing but also some humor as well. The dual narration was wonderfully done and Ivers delivers a well-balanced storyline with emotion, sweet romance, steamy chemistry, humor and so much more. I loved it and can't wait to see what's next from Ivers!

This book was given to me for free at my request and I voluntarily provided this review.

Second Chances

Ok So the audiobook for this one is a winner. Gordon and Riley were high school sweethearts. They became enemies until they were back in close enough proximity that they couldn't deny the chemistry and had to have a conversation. I only wanted yell at them a few times to talk to each other and clear it up because they so clearly could resolve their issues with one conversation. I am so glad they did and look forward to finding more books in this series!

Intense chemistry

Bossy Devil (Nashville Devils #5) is a workplace, second chance romance.

Riley and Gordon’s story is the final book in this series and I enjoyed it. The chemistry between these two, after a decade apart, was strong and intense. Very entertaining love hate relationship, before they were able to find their way back to each other. I liked getting another glimpse of the other characters in the series as well.

Alan Stone and Kristie Lee Walsh did a nice job narrating this book and portraying Gordon and Riley.

Great Story & Narration🎧Gripping & Heartfelt!

Melissa Ivers pens another terrific novel set in her “Nashville Devils” series, a sports second chance romance that captivates your attentions and tugs at your heartstrings the entire time. This fifth book of the series is Riley Adams’ and Gordon Benson’s story and their story stands on its own. Gordon and Riley were high school sweethearts, both had dreams that took place on the ice, he as a hockey player, and she a figure skater. But they wound up breaking up just before his hockey career took off, and were both under the impression the other ended their relationship, thanks to his manipulative and controlling father. They had not seen each other in years, and when they do there was a lot of angst and unresolved feelings. When Riley loses her job it was Jazz, Gordon’s sister, who offered to help her find a new job, though she never thought it would be a job working the Devil’s organization, one she did not plan on taking, except there were no other jobs around, and as a single mom she needed the job. Jazz was on to something with these two, and it was great to watch them go at each other, with misconceptions of the past, and then after they learn the truth about what really happened. My heart broke for them, and the time they lost, but I was happy they made their way back to each other. I was also happy that Gordon and Jazz, got the last laugh with their father’s friend. This is so much more than a second chance romance, and I loved the layers of the story and how it all played out with the perfect balance of drama, angst, some witty banter and dialogue to lighten things up, heartfelt emotions and steamy romance. Melissa Ivers, thank you for another terrific story and emotional rollercoaster ride.

🎧📚🎧 Alan Stone and Kristie Lee Walsh did a great job bringing these characters to life, understanding who they were portraying, giving each a voice that fit their personality and demeanor perfectly. They set the right tone for the story, captured all the characters’ emotions and had you feeling them all. These two made a great narration team, with voices and talent that complemented each other and a performance that elevates the story to another level. They are entertaining storytellers and a pleasure to listen to.

Loving & Passionate

Kristie Lee Walsh has a perfect sweet and calming voice for Riley. Her counterpart who played Gordon was the perfect match in contrast for this love story.

Gordon and Riley

Gordon and Riley

I enjoyed listening to this. These two were high school sweethearts. Each mad at each other for how things went down years ago now find themselves seeing each other five days as through certain events and desperation has Riley no other option than to take the job as their assistant. I heard this is last book in the story I have only read the previous book and a short holiday story that was the coach. Gordon is one of the owners of the hockey league. The first book is the other owners story so why not end with her brother. I found this enjoyable as Gordon still has feelings for Riley but is angry with her too. He was a hockey player whose career was destroyed from an accident and then he was co-owner of his dad's hockey league. Riley is a single mom who winded up taking care of her sister and daughter. Loved listening to these two go at it. I think the narrators did a good job.
