About this listen

Bridges Out of Poverty is a unique and powerful tool designed specifically for social, health, and legal services professionals. Based in part on Dr. Ruby K. Payne's myth-shattering A Framework for Understanding Poverty, Bridges reaches out to the millions of service providers and businesses whose daily work connects them with the lives of people in poverty.

Find case studies, detailed analysis, helpful charts and exercises, and specific solutions you and your organization can implement right now to:

  • Redesign programs to better serve people you work with
  • Build skill sets for management to help guide employees
  • Upgrade training for front-line staff like receptionists, case workers, and managers
  • Improve treatment outcomes in health care and behavioral health care
  • Increase the likelihood of moving from welfare to work

If your business, agency, or organization works with people from poverty, only a deeper understanding of their challenges - and strengths - will help you partner with them to create opportunities for success.

PLEASE NOTE: When you purchase this title, the accompanying reference material will be available in your My Library section along with the audio.

Good information

This is intended for social workers or anybody working with people in poverty in a capacity trying to help them out of poverty and that is not me however it was recommended to me in order to help one person specifically so that I could understand and I do feel like I got a lot out of this book.

Helpful for Church Work, Too

I am a pastor who works with a lot of social workers. This book helped me understand some of ways that the social workers operate, and I appreciated the explanation of the "hidden rules" of different classes. The rules helped me to reflect on how my congregation functions and why it is increasingly difficult for us (solidly middle class) to reach our neighbors (increasingly people in poverty).

Great Book to help understand Poverty

This book certainly was an eye-opening! The biggest takeaway was the "hidden class rules". I never thought about it but that is a major barrier for those new to our culture and to those in poverty. This is a MUST read for those working with people in poverty and those organization that want to be inclusive. HUD HRA employees...this would be a great resource book.

Couldn't pause, awesome approach to bridging the gap.

I couldn't stop listening to the audio book. It consumed my whole day. I replayed certain segments for note taking and better understanding. I will require my management team to read the book or listen to the audible. A must read for teachers and academic administrators. While this is a great resource for college level , I believe the greatest impact is K-12. We can change a generation by using the BOP teachings.
