Responses to a question on how to explore the higher states of consciousness. According to Osho there are not many ways to explore higher levels of consciousness, there is but one: the way of awareness. "Man is almost unconscious. I say “almost” - there are moments, situations where he becomes conscious, but they are momentary."

Political revolutions have never resulted in the changes they promised. What is love? Everyone will have a different notion of what love is. In this talk Osho says that love has become the rarest of rare and speaks of learning how to grow love, how to create a climate of love, of gratitude and thankfulness. Learn how to grow love, to overflow with love, to give love rather than living in need masquerading as love. Instead, prepare the ground for love as a natural functioning.

Every child has been conditioned not to love himself but to love others. That is impossible. Only a very deeply selfish person can be unselfish. Being self-centered is basic. A self-centered person seeks to maximize his happiness. The happier you become, the more you will seek to share that happiness with others. That is the only way to be happy.

In Tao, Osho takes listeners on an adventure into the world of Lao Tzu, Chuang Tzu, Lieh Tzu, Ko Hsuan - the world of Taoism, one of the four major traditions of China. The 3000-year-old Taoist message of self-realization becomes alive as Osho recounts the stories of these Chinese mystics. Not believing, but only experiencing, says Osho in this inspiring series of talks, is a way of finding truth and meaning. Nirvana has become an idealized word associated with the juxtaposition of a cult rock celebrity who died before his time and a vague new age version of Eastern religion. An altered state to be hoped for but likely unattainable, reinforcing that all too familiar uneasiness associated with never being able to have what we truly desire in life.

There is a famous Zen story about a disciple, Riko, who once asked his master, Nansen, to explain to him the old Zen koan of the goose in the bottle. Namely, if a man puts a gosling into a bottle and feeds the gosling through the bottle's neck until it grows and becomes a goose - and then there is simply no more room inside the bottle - how can the man get it out without killing the goose or breaking the bottle? In response, Nansen shouts, "Riko!" and gives a great clap with his hands.
