About this listen

A bold and timely novel from #1 bestselling author Joanne Harris that explores how women can feel invisible as they grow older - and what happens when they decide to take back control...

Have you ever felt invisible?

Bernie Moon has given her life to other people: her husband, her son, her friends (who are these days, mostly online). At nineteen she was full of dreams and ambitions; now almost fifty, and going through the menopause, she's fading, fast. Heartbroken and hormonal, she often feels like she's losing her mind.

But when a young woman is murdered in a local park, it sparks a series of childhood memories in Bernie and with them, a talent that has lain dormant most of her adult life.

She promised herself she'd never think of it again. When she was a teenager, it almost destroyed her. But now she's older, could it be the power she's been missing?

Could it be the chance to, finally, make them look?©2023 Joanne Harris (P)2023 Orion Publishing Group Limited

What a clever and interesting book! The themes are topical and the characters wholly believable. The writing is, of course, beautiful, although the story does drag slightly in one or two places.

The narration is a treat all by itself, I would listen to Ms Stubbs recite a shopping list, so this was delightful.

I gorged on this one and listened all in one day. I will do so again, more slowly at a later date.

very powerful book...readers may well see themselves popping in and out of the narrative... and the build up to the climax in the book kept me captivated...I highly recommend...

The begging is very slow. But after 4 hours I couldn’t put it down. This is a very important book that deals with so many subjects that a crucial to this time. A tour de force of this amazing writer. Narrator excellent.
