About this listen

War is hell. It cost Gary Cross his military career, his love, and left him with a roadmap of scars that serve as a constant reminder of everything he lost. Out of that tortured past came something extraordinary—CrossBow Protection, one of the premiere bodyguard services in the US.

Michael Kennedy has been Gary Cross’s personal assistant for nearly a year. He’s come to understand why none of his predecessors lasted more than a few months. Gary Cross is snarly, prickly, and snappy, and those are his good points. But Michael is not like the others—as Gary is about to find out.

A job for the government proves hard to refuse, but it isn’t long before Gary and Michael realize that by protecting one man, they’re risking everything Gary has built—and bringing death to their front door.

But this time Gary won’t let go. Even though it could lose him what he holds most dear.

*TRIGGER WARNINGS* This book contains scenes of violence and torture. It also contains sexy bits between men.

Excellent Story & Narration🎧 Thrilling & Intense!

K.C. Wells and Parker Williams team up together for another amazing collaboration, a romantic suspense that keeps you thinking and brings you to the edge of your seat. Gary Cross, former military, has been through heII and survived, a sole surviver of a mission gone wrong. He lost a lot that tragic day, including the love of his life, Eric Bowman, and the only thing he has left are the scars inside and out, a broken heart and body. After recovering and back in the states he opened the security firm he and Eric discussed and dreamed about doing. The company has been doing well, and Gary has great people working for him and they moved into a new state-of-the-art building. The only problem he has is with keeping personal assistant. That was, until Michael Kennedy, his latest assistant, who tolerates him and gives as good as he gets. Michael sees Gary for who he is, why he is such a grump, and knows when he is having a bad day. Gary know he has a gem working for him and finally shows his appreciation, at least he attempt too. And when Gary’s past comes walking in the door, someone from his military past, someone he never wanted to see again, it is Michael who stands up to him first. Because he knew it would be something Eric would have done, he takes on an assignment that proves to be more dangerous than he first expected. There are a lot of layers to this story and the writing, plot and world building are fantastic, as are the character growth and development. I loved watching the relationship between Gary and Michael morph into more. The chemistry between them was smoking hot, and I thought they were great together and for each other. This story has plenty of drama, angst, heartfelt emotions, mystery, thrilling suspense and steamy romance. K.C. Wells and Parker Williams, thank you for another amazing story and wild, emotional rollercoaster ride.

🎧📚🎧 John Solo delivers an outstanding performance, bringing these characters to life, humanizing them, giving each a voice that is fitting and I loved how he took each role and made it his own, sounding believable and just as I imagined they would sound. He absolutely nailed it as Gary, grasping every aspect of his personality, including his grumpy demeanor and his determination. And he was just as amazing as Michael and his character voices for all the secondary characters were perfection, too. He sets the right tone for the story, captures all the characters’ emotions and has you feeling them all. John Solo is a versatile voice artist and his performance elevates this already amazing story to another level. Thank you for another exceptional listen.

Love can heal the broken

Broken Warrior by K.C. Wells and Parker Williams is the first in the series Crossbow Protection. Gary is the head of a security company that is a dream made in the Deserts of Iraq and finally comes to fruition. Although Gary is a broken man he doesn’t let it stop him from giving second chances to those who may need it or deserve help when no one else will. Michael Gary’s executive assistant has been watching his boss for quite a while and knows he is having a particularly bad day but it doesn’t mean he has to put up with it. That is the day Michael lets him know he is in charge now and is there to help and support him in everything he does.
When the government comes knocking for help with protecting a leader in the Middle East that has ties to Gary’s last deployment it turns into a nightmare with the point man Porter keeping important information to himself and putting all of Crossbow in danger. I loved this story as it shows what many of our military men and women go through when they are back home. John Solo as narrator put such a wonderful new dimension to the story he embraced Michael’s snarkiness and Gary’s inner warrior. I look forward to the next audiobook in the series

Broken Warrior

A good story that is full of mystery and emotions. When Michael has had enough of his boss’s surly attitude, he makes it known and that one moment changes their lives forever. Gary finally stops and actually listens to what Michael tells him. While these two navigate their new and tentative friendship things begin to change. A new job for the company comes with a threat and the two must work to find a safe outcome for all involved. I enjoyed watching the interaction and the connection develop between Gary and Michael. The authors have done a great job with the mix of action and emotions. The story is fast paced with good amount of angst and drama alongside the action. Narrator John Solo does a wonderful job of bringing the characters to life and I was quickly immersed in the story and feeling the emotions.

Wow!!! Well crafted book the STAYES with you

...long after the last page is (Figuratively) turned.❤

I very much enjoyed listening to this audiobook. It had a complex cast of characters who were believable & Held my interest. The main characters had their Fatal flaws and also complex backstories that added interest to the love story , (hot!). Indeed, each character grew from the beginning to the end of the book you could see the arc of the character development. I like that very much. I could reduce the story to a troupe , But that would do it a disservice.
In fact, I listened / enjoyed this audiobook 3 times before writing my review. So good!

I liked very much was the way the story caused me to feel various emotions like sadness, humor, joy ,optimism as well as anxiety and curiosity. I admit,, I had to close my eyes at the parts that were a little less pleasant. They contributed to the story and were thus necessary. 1 could say this was a meaty book. This is the kind of book you read and do not forget immediately. It stays with you.

Narrator John Solo does an excellent performance of this book and I enjoy every time I hear his voice. He defines the characters both in voice and tone . He has that ability to bring a book to life and adds so much Between the lines. He has a pleasant voice and his accents are believable. I rarely find that he mispronounces words. Sometimes these things can ruin parts of the book for me. I truly appreciate a narrator who does his / her homework.
He is 1 of my Favorite narrators/performers!

I highly recommend this book and am so looking forward to other writings by this duo of authors!

(Apologies for poor editing of this review, Vision problems are making it very difficult. I so am appreciative of audible recordings. Thank you, authors, For audible recordings.)

Awesome!

This was an awesome book. The first book knocked it out of the park. I’ve listened to KC wells before and I enjoyed all of their previous books. This book makes me can’t wait to see if there is going to be a Wheels book next (please 🙏).
Shout out to John Solo for bringing the story to life and doing a spectacular job as always.

A breath of fresh air!

I always love KC Wells' work, but this was a great story and just what I needed. You can tell she did a lot of research to bring these characters to life and make them as real as possible. In a world where so many authors push books out at record speed with no thought of realism, this was a breath of fresh air. I loved the 2 opposing sides of Cross' personality and how Micheal was able to give him exactly what he didn't know he needed. I look forward to more books in this series, especially Josh's book. If I had to give a criticism, it would be only in how quickly the two main character's came together. I enjoy watching / reading a relationship that builds naturally over time and all the mess that comes with it. This one felt a little rushed, but only a little. Overall this was a fantastic read and I'll be keeping my eye out for the rest of this series!

Wonderful New Series

This book is a new series from this author consisting of ex-military personnels working at a protection agency and the men who undoubtedly will make life a bit softer and hopefully easier.
looking forward to the next installment.

I absolutely like Michael, he's a force to be reckon with, he takes no sh*t from Gary Cross his boss, who's like a snapping turtle 😁😁😆😆.
I enjoyed the main characters and the secondary characters, the whole plot line was awesome. Hopefully the next book will top this one.

The narration was very well performed, the characters' tones and demeanor on point.

overall this book is a great start to a new series.
