About this listen

Liam

Weirdly, people don’t react overly well when you’re caught standing over the dead body of a murderer who’d walked free.

It’s not that I thought my fellow homicide detective would rejoice when he saw what I’d done, but is a pat on the back too much to ask for? Maybe a gold star at the very least?

The problem is that the person who caught me is Gabriel, the only person I care for and adore… and he’s prepared to look the other way if I leave homicide and promise to never kill again. Yet when Gabriel gets taken by a serial killer, there’s absolutely no way I can sit back while this parasite takes what is mine.

But what the killer doesn’t know is that I’m coming for him and that I would destroy the world to keep Gabriel safe. After all, who could hunt a serial killer better than another one?

Gabriel

Drawing Liam back into homicide is the last thing I thought I’d ever do, but the killer is picking off my fellow detectives, and the only way we’re going to make it out of this is with Liam heading the case (even if there’s one—or five—coworkers he’d rather not save).

Liam is smart, sarcastic, and the most dangerous man I’ve ever met, and yet I can’t look away—even if he calls my adorable cat Lucy Fur. No one has any idea just how far Liam will go for me, especially not the killer, who won’t realize until too late that the prey he hunts is actually a predator.

If Llamas with Hats Were a Romance

And yet I couldn't stop.
I finished the whole thing in one day.
Just enough conflict without dwelling in stress. HEA.

LOVED THIS!!

Thoroughly enjoyed this audiobook. Wow!
I love Liam, one of the MC. His humor, sarcasm, and deviant heart is strangely likable. Plus Gabriel is a good counterpart to his personality. Greg Boudreaux, as always, did spectacular narration. Another good Alice Winters story. Highly recommend.

Another Winner!

Alice Winters does it again! Alice is one of those authors you want to write story after story about the characters she already has because you love them so much, instead of introducing new characters. Yet every time she writes new characters you instantly fall in love with them and they’re added to the list of characters you can’t wait for her to write another book about. Liam and Gabriel are already on that list for me. Their story is sweet, suspenseful, hilarious, sad, and romantic in a “I’ll destroy anyone to keep you safe” way. I loved that Gabriel really struggled with the person Liam is throughout the book instead of just accepting the things he found out Liam had done. Gabriel is a caring person with a sweet personality who sees the best in everyone. Liam doesn’t care about anyone or anything but Gabriel, and is willing to burn the world down for him. There’s murder and manipulation throughout the book and the perpetrators take you by surprise. Greg Boudreaux does a stellar job narrating. He really made Liam and Gabriel’s personalities stand out and amped up the suspenseful parts of the book. I highly recommend you read or listen, or both!

PHANTABOOLOUS!

If you're a fan of gripping narratives that delve deep into the human psyche, then A Simple Mistake by Alice Winters is a must-read! This book, narrated by the talented Greg Boudreaux, offers a fresh perspective on a familiar story, as it unfolds through the eyes of Liam, a homicide detective with a dark twist.

Liam's journey is anything but ordinary. Tension escalates as he grapples with his feelings for Gabriel, the one person he adores, and the looming threat of a serial killer. The narrative is rich with suspense and emotional depth, making it hard to put down.

What truly sets this book apart is the phenomenal voice acting. Greg Boudreaux brings the characters to life with such vibrancy and nuance that it's as if you’re experiencing their emotions firsthand. Each character has a distinct voice that captures their essence perfectly. I loved how Greg navigated the different tones and accents, making the listening experience incredibly immersive. It reminded me of my favorite audiobooks, mostly Alice's, where the voice actors add an extra layer of magic to the story.

Alice Winters has a knack for storytelling that avoids the political pitfalls that sometimes plague other authors. I can get into a story and then the political bs comes out and it makes me put it down and move on to another author. Instead, she focuses on crafting a captivating plot and well-developed characters that resonate with readers. The complexity of the plot and the depth of character development are truly commendable.

I can't wait for the second installment of this series! If you're intrigued by a detective story that combines suspense, romance, and a touch of darkness, I urge you to pick up A Simple Mistake. You won’t regret diving into this thrilling world where love and danger intertwine. And the cat just takes the spotlight :D

A darker side of Alice

If Leland being a retired assassin in the Hitman books was too lightweight for you, meet Liam, a homicide detective who is an avenging Dexter on the side.

Alice Winters turns the zaniness way, way down for this surprisingly sober, often dark story about murder, secrets, betrayal, and trust. Definitely don’t want to give anything away, so just be prepared for a book that is a bit macabre and loaded with twists.

PS - Greg B gives a master class in narration on this one. Top notch work.

awesome

I thought the narrator did a really good job and I really enjoyed the story. Her books tend to be dramatic and ridiculous and this one was a little more serious but I still enjoyed her style.

AW is not a one hit wonder!

Can’t wait for the arrival of the next book in the series to be released in Audible. AW is gifted with her mix of MM dramatic/comedic characters. In this series, detectives Liam and Gabriel are a perfect blend of paradoxical personalities. Liam, a serial avenger who hates all humans with only one exception. Gabriel, the childlike adult detective in the room struggles with the world as he believes it should be, plays by the rules, and one of the few on the force who can who tolerate Liam.
AW weaves her story beautifully around the two main characters. Voice narrator, Greg Boudreaux is first and foremost…a great actor. Winters/Boudreaux = great story + great story teller.
You don’t want to miss this one.

Another hit by Alice Winters

I love Greg Bordeaux and he does an excellent job as usual. Liam and Gabriel’s dynamic is the perfect push and pull. I love the way Liam loves Gabriel no matter how Gabriel feels or treats him. The glances into the past were just the right amount to give us good context. Can’t wait for book 2!

The perfect ratio

As always, Alice has the perfect ratio of suspense, romance, heartbreak of traumas past and deadpan humor with a pinch of 🌶️ to keep things interesting. Dickish grump ready to tear the world apart to keep his sunshiny love safe. And of course there’s Lucy Fur. An amazing book deserves an amazing performance and Greg Boudreaux certainly delivers that.
