Fracking ruptures more than the earth.
The spark for Buried by the Roan, the second novel in the Allison Coil Mystery Series, is a dead hunter on the shore of Oyster Lake, deep in the Flat Tops Wilderness. Josh Keating's demise could be a case of a hunter drinking too much and stumbling late at night. Or it could be something much worse. Plenty of other strange things are going on to make hunting guide Allison Coil think the death is no accident.
Someone is lurking around, leaving odd notes and maps. Hunters and guides are turning up violently ill from drinking the Flat Tops water. Four of the buffalo on Keating's ranch are slaughtered. And there's word that Keating and his neighbor were tangled up in a property dispute triggered by a centuries-old Colorado law known as adverse possession.
The future of the way of life in the rugged Colorado mountains is at stake.
Allison picks up the killer's trail but it leads to the simple, wicked device that murdered her client.

Amy Johnson's performance is quite satisfactory. Her character voices are only slightly differentiated, but I had no trouble following dialog. This is a listen I can recommend.

I quit after 50%. I believe in ecology, I'm a Liberal, I shop at Whole Foods. Recycle, Carbon Foot Print aware, and walked Five miles to High School on the first Earth Day back in the 1970's, etc. I have lived in Colorado for over 50 years. Shopped for decades at Tattered Cover. Have grown my own Habeneros and other food, Composted, etc. But, the rhetoric about "Nature's Way of Telling You..." by the today's Women lost my interest and distracted from the mystery.Would you be willing to try another book from Mark Stevens? Why or why not?
I have Antlers Dust in ebook form. I may read it at some point. I was excited to read / listen to a local Colorado writer, so I'm disappointed. I was hoping to read a good mystery set in Colorado with a strong female lead.Have you listened to any of Amy Johnson’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Amy Johnson's performance is fine.Did Buried by the Roan inspire you to do anything?
