Publisher's summary

You already have everything you need inside you to move from chaos to clarity, from self-neglect to self-possession, from burned out to lit up.

Does the constant juggling of personal and professional demands leave you drained, overwhelmed, and ready to give up? You are not alone. There is another way, and it doesn’t require throwing it all out and spending five years in a cave.

Does this sound familiar?

  • Physical exhaustion and tiredness that doesn't get better no matter what you’ve tried
  • Sacrificing your personal well-being to "get it all done"
  • Losing touch with what matters most to you and what you actually want in work and life
  • Feeling overwhelmed, reactive, and unable to manage stress
  • Running from thing to thing but feeling unable to engage meaningfully in any of it
  • Hustling to satisfy all the demands in your life and still feeling like a failure

Burnout is a modern epidemic, with countless women exhausted from trying to be everything to everyone (except themselves), only to realize they have nothing left to give.

In Burned Out to Lit Up, Cara E. Houser shares her personal journey from soul-crushing burnout to recovery and renewal. With raw vulnerability and hard-won wisdom, she guides you step-by-step through recognizing burnout in yourself; making space in your insanely overbooked life by decluttering your space, mind, and schedule; rebuilding healthy mindsets, habits, and practices; and sustaining your transformation for the long term through resilience and joy.

Her book exposes the lies of hustle culture and shows you how to create a multidimensional, badass life that you don’t need to escape from. It offers the tools to stop striving, start thriving, and cultivate a life aligned with what matters most, one nourishing choice at a time.

You can enjoy:

  • Vibrant well-being inside and out
  • Deeper connection with your inner knowing and wellspring of ideas and energy
  • A renewed sense of joy and empowerment

Burned Out to Lit Up provides powerful reflection exercises, stories of lessons learned the hard way, and distilled guidance. You will discover how to reclaim your power, joy, and well-being, and recenter your life around who and what matters most to you – all without breaking the bank or falling into an existential abyss.

If you’re ready to ditch the grind and reclaim your life, join this life-changing journey of healing and reigniting your soul. The world needs your spark, and your time to shine is now.

Not your formulaic "Life coach" book. Read it.

Regardless of where you find yourself on the burn out free fall, this book has invaluable insights/tools for the arsenal of life. Chapter 4 sang loud to me-- people who get "IT" done... reliable to the core...ultimate team player...takes pride in work (when no one is watching) and grind it out because that is what you do...put up with unhealthy b.s. only to get more work thrown on your plate as others standby. Good tips on how to decline and say "no" --seems easy and is easy for some--but not the ultimate team player. Thank you Cara for speaking to an audience of these types of individuals. While we think it's a star quality as we develop in our career and forge through life, it is an unhealthy path unless boundaries are set/priorities made and promises to oneself honored. Unfortunately, the latter does not come naturally -- have to learn "on the job" which often times is at a high cost.

This read is organized in a logical, user-friendly way so the reader can visit and re-visit areas that one may relate to at a particular time in life. It is evident the author has walked this walk and has keen insight to share from her lessons learned and years of research and being on the life journey. --Jen L., Oakland, CA

Relatable and easy to follow

There are parts of this that are oversimplified but overall it’s nice to hear that one woman has a found a way to make it all work.

Well written with lots of great, useful, and usable advice for women and other care-givers usable advice, all in one place.

I got a lot out of this book, and highly recommend it. I think the book’s thesis is a very important for both society and individuals: (1) that American culture (especially American work culture) makes it very likely for adults (especially parents) to feel burnt out, that sexism makes that even more likely for women, and that it’s therefore necessary for individuals (if not society) to be assertive about setting boundaries that avoid and repair burnout. Even more importantly, the author provides a treasure-trove of useful strategies to help individuals gain and use that assertiveness. This was a great find!
