About this listen

Maybe, if we met at another time - another life - he could’ve been mine. Maybe, if I were older. Maybe, if he wasn’t my brother’s best friend. Maybe, if he wasn’t my teacher.

Maybe. Maybe. Maybe.

Having my dirty little secret living down the hall had me obsessing over alternate endings and happily ever afters. I’d never wanted someone so badly, but his hot and cold behavior was giving me emotional whiplash.

In the classroom, he practically ignored me. But here? In my brother’s loft? It felt like we were a thick rubber band, pulled so tight we’d snap.

Falling for Decker Harris made me realize that life wasn’t as serendipitous as everyone liked to think. We weren’t just a collection of maybes thrust into the world with hope and good intentions.

Everything started with a choice, and somewhere between grief and redemption, I chose to make him mine.

Good story, Female narration eh

I LOVE everything CoraLee June, and this was no exception. Female narration was a bit off, though. Wrong inflection at times, and some mispronounced words. Male narration was excellent!

I liked it !

First CoraLee June book I haven’t DNFd . Good story nice mellow read. It was enough to keep me interested but I wasn’t itching to turn the page either. Perfect for the reading slump I’ve been in.

An incredible Forbidden Romance

Usually with the teacher/student forbidden romances tend to be over the top with alpha males and naive girls. This is not that. This is an incredible love story. I love every single character in this book and and an unexpected love triangle you won’t see coming. The narration was perfect. Definitely a must have companion to the book.

Good story, awful narration

Oh my! Nothing like a narrator ruining a good book. Tyler Darby was good, but Amber Bray...no no no! Her over enunciation of everything got on my nerves and really took away from the story, which was pretty good. I think I would have preferred the book had I just read it.

It was good but not what I was expecting

Narration: 2 .5/3⭐️
Okay.
I didn’t care for the female narrator...at all. The southern accent was Over the top and at times made me cringe. The male narrator was fantastic though!

Story: 3.5 ⭐️
I wouldn’t say this is a dark high school romance, as it’s advertised. Forbidden love slow burn? Yes! I was expecting more dark themes/bully type stuff to go on and that wasn’t the case.

I still enjoyed this story mainly because of how both main characters were so reluctant to engage in a relationship. They resisted each other as long as possible before caving and that added tension was my jam. I just wish the forbidden aspect had been fleshed out more. Yes, they were resistant to their attraction but there wasn’t as much sneaking around as I would’ve liked. Not to mention the main conflict/turning point ends up not even being about the couple themselves or about them getting caught. It was actually kind of random.

Hmmm oh! I loved Decker and Lance. I liked how protective Decker was of his best friend, Lance. Their friendship was sweet.

Overall, good but not quite what I was expecting/looking for.

3.5 STARS

This was my first book by Coralee June, and it won't be my last. This is a taboo/brother’s best friend/student teacher romance. I was impressed by the writing and character development and couldn’t get enough of the angst and chemistry between Blakely and Decker. Blakely’s character blew me away. She was much more mature than I initially expected. She has had to grow up quickly. She is a strong and resilient and has learned to get by in life on her own without the help of others. The first half of the book kept me engaged and listening, the second half was much harder as I found the drama over the top at times and difficult to stick with. Although, I am glad I did because the story comes together in the end and I enjoyed it overall. Amber Bray and Tyler Darby do an incredible job narrating. The power and emotion in their voices added so much to this story and I will definitely be looking out for more titles narrated by these two in the future.

Nice story but terrible female narrator

The storyline was good I feel like I would have enjoyed it more if I had just read the book itself or if there was a better female narrator.
The male narrator was good but the female omg. Terrible, horrendous, atrocious. I literally had to force myself to finish listening to this audiobook. Her southern accent was terrible and too over the top and her conveying of emotions was horrendous especially in the sex scenes. She basically narrated everything in the same tone.

I enjoyed it, but I wasn't crazy about it.

I can't really identify why, exactly, but I felt some kind of dissonance between myself and the main characters. It's weird, because I loved the story, loved them together, loved their personalities, loved the narration! But there was just SOMETHING I can't yet identify that was missing for me. Maybe it's just because I've heard so many stories that follow this plot of hiding the relationship and it not working and blowing up eventually that it just made the end sort of dull. That's possible. I suppose I expected more about the high school in the book labeled as a dark high school romance. Not only that, but the accents were driving me a little nuts since my whole family lives in Texas and none of them have an accent that ridiculously thick so I wasn't used to it. Oh, and Decker was kind of a little baby sometimes.... he stepped up at the end, of course, but his whole guilt trip on himself just turned me off. Even so, I actually really enjoyed the novel overall and the plotline with Lance. Lance being a pansexual man was an excellent little addition to the book that made it interesting and honestly, he could probably have a novel made all about his own love life and it would be unique and interesting to many people I'm sure. Anyway, the book was awesome and I highly recommend it; it just wasn't something that fit my own personal tastes to the point where it blew my socks off, you know?
