About this listen

From his earliest childhood, C.S. Lewis loved to hear and tell stories. Persuaded that stories could reveal the truth about the real world in a unique way, the literature professor would write more than thirty books, including science fiction, theology, literary criticism, and fantasy. (1898 -1963)

In an era marked by two world wars, Lewis attacked tough questions about life and faith headfirst. Convinced that the story of Jesus Christ is the truest of all stories, and known for searching out the truth with honesty, clarity, and imagination, the former atheist would become one of the most influential Christians of the twentieth century.

This best-selling missionary biography series—Christian Heroes: Then & Now—chronicles the exciting, challenging, and deeply touching true stories of ordinary men and women whose trust in God accomplished extraordinary exploits for His kingdom and glory.

I love this story of how Jack became a Christian and the tough things in his life like his mom’s death and his friend/nurse’s death. And his marriage to Joice and her death and also I love the talk that Tolkien and Jack about Christianity and think that is encouraging other Christians that there is a man named Jack Lewis who faced more tough things than probably happened to you! I don’t like the narrative and Warren’s view of the story through his letters and his diary. But other than that I think this is a great Christian book!!

initially, taking you there, in place and time, through a child and a young man's perspective, to taking you there, spiritually and emotionally, this script is alive! I felt as if I lived a lifelong journey through listening to this narrative, now looking forward to rereading all of CS Lewis's books.

Profoundly moving!

After listening to this story Our family would not consider C.S. Lewis a Christian Hero. Although he is a famous author, there was not much in his life story that we would consider outstanding as a Christian.

Not our favorite in the series
