Publisher's summary

Amy Carmichael stood on the deck of the steamer, waving good-bye once again to her old friend Robert Wilson. How could she have known she would never see him or the British Isles again? Amy was certain God had called her to India. Indeed! India would be home for the rest of her life.

Amy's life was marked by a simple, determined obedience to God, regardless of circumstances. Her story and legacy are stunning reminders of the impact of one person who will fear God and nothing else.

Driven by love and compassion, and sustained by faith and determination, Amy Carmichael defied the cruel barriers of India's caste system. The story of this young woman from Northern Ireland is a brilliant, sparkling example of God's love generously poured out to "the least of these among us."

Wonderful woman of God

This is a very simply written but profound book about a wonderful woman of God. I listened to it with my children and the authors did an excellent job of mentioning the heavy content without going into too much detail for little ears. We thoroughly enjoyed this book and highly recommend it.

Amazing woman, great story!

This story begins with the life of Amy Carmichael as a little girl. It ends when her life on this earth closes. What happens in-between is a rich life committed to the service of the God she loved. I came to so love this woman (of whom I knew nothing before this book), that I said I would name a daughter if I had one, after her. The narrator Rebecca Gallagher is outstanding.

Encouraging book!

What a wonderful testimony of a faithful servant of Christ! I listened to this audio book every time I had dishes to wash or work on the computer, and even on the sabbath as I watched the baby play in the grass! I have been encouraged and challenged by the life of Amy Carmichael! What a life she lives to God!y

Wonderful to read about missionaries from the past

I loved all the realism. Life in far off places wasn't Heaven on Earth. I like that the authors didn't candy coat the missionary work. It's not victory all the time on the mission field and the Benges' portray exactly that. I loved hearing about how Amy was so innovative by wearing the clothing of the culture she was ministering to. She didn't let well-meaning and ill-meaning people get her down. She dived into the culture and lived with the people she was reaching. They were not her servants, she was their servant. Well worth reading!
