The Colonial Radio Players
About this listen
Dr. Peter Blood is arrested and sentenced to hang for treating a wounded rebel. Instead of death, he is sent to Barbados as a slave. When the Spanish attack the port city of Bridgetown, he and his fellow slaves capture the Spanish ship and set out to sea, where he becomes the notorious pirate, Captain Blood. With battles on sea and on land, daring escapes, sword duels to the death, a touch of romance, and a magnificent score by Jeffrey Gage, Captain Blood is a swashbuckling adventure on a very grand scale!

Set in the lovely seacoast town of Marblehead Massachusetts, Jerry and the Pirates is CRT's homage to the classic TV sitcoms of the 60's and 70's (complete with the ill-timed laugh track). Jerry Robbins stars as Jerry Davenport, a motion picture screenwriter who has left Hollywood for the quiet serenity of the craggy shores of the east coast. That serenity is soon shattered with the arrival of his three nephews, played by Rob Cattell, Connor Doherty, and Ricky MacDonald.

Story
It is hard to resist a good, rousing pirate adventure! As with our other productions, Pirate Legends has been kept as historically accurate as possible. Pirate Legends tells the story of two of our earliest pirates (William Fly and Dixie Bull). Most of us have come to accept what Hollywood has given us over the years as pirate tales, but you will find no "Pirate Hero" here. What you will find is what history gave us...un-glamorized, and in most cases ruthless men who were the terrorists of their day.

Story
The very strange but nevertheless true story of the dark underbelly of a 1960s hippie utopia. Laurel Canyon in the 1960s and early 1970s was a magical place where a dizzying array of musical artists congregated to create much of the music that provided the soundtrack to those turbulent times. But there was a dark side to that scene as well. Many didn't make it out alive, and many of those deaths remain shrouded in mystery to this day.

Asians in MN! I loved it. The vivid sounds of Northern Minnesota totally took me there, and I was hooked into the mystery.

Next to watching the Errol Flynn movie, this is the best dramatization of the book!

Swashbuckling Radio for Modern Listeners
I'm developing a healthy respect for the Colonial Radio Theatre players. Rafael Sabatini's works are already amongst my favorites just because they're swashbuckling fun, and I'm a sucker for that. I'm also a sucker for a quality full-cast radio drama, and these actors bring the melodrama up to full. It actually feels a lot like they stripped the audio track from an Errol Flynn movie. I'd love to hear this group do a version of Scaramouche.

Masterpiece of adventure!
Where does Captain Blood rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
CRT's production of Captain Blood is outstanding! I'm getting spoiled by this radio company's attention to detail and a willingness to dramatize the entire story. I've never encountered this before in a commercial product.
What did you like best about this story?
The sea engagements, the detail of history, and CRT's excellent performances. I felt like one of Peter Blood's crew.
Which character – as performed by Jerry Robbins and The Colonial Radio Players – was your favorite?
Jeremy Pitt, Captain Blood's conscience. Delicate yet strong like a foil. Not like a cutlass.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Cast off for Port Royal! CRT's production and Warner Brothers have already sheared away a main cable for quality, so I think both are safe.
Any additional comments?
Jerry and CRT keep them coming!

Authentic adaptation presented remarkably well!
One of my favorite books (and one of my favorite movies as well), this adaptation is loyal to the book and authentic to the story… The real story, not the abbreviated, short attention span movie version. The production value is extremely high and an enjoyable listen (even if, at times, the dialogue was delivered a bit too quickly to sound natural). On the whole, I found it an outstanding version and dramatization and would enthusiastically endorse it as one of the best audiobook presentations I have stumbled across an a while. Bravo!

AWESOMENESS at its greatest.
This is another great listen by The Colonial Radio Theatre. I'm always pleased with the productions that I purchase from Jerry Robbins and the CRT players. There are so many great shows to keep you entertained for days to months. Check out many more from the huge selections from CRT.
