About this listen

Carrhae is the fourth installment in the Parthian Chronicles, the adventures of King Pacorus of Dura, and follows on from Parthian Vengeance.

The great Parthian Civil War is over, leaving behind an empire exhausted by years of bloodshed. But no sooner have hostilities ended than Armenia, the client state of Rome, declares war on the empire and unleashes its army against Parthia. Even Dura’s mighty army cannot stave off a series of defeats as the enemies of Parthia circle the empire like hungry wolves. And Pacorus knows that Marcus Licinius Crassus is also marching east to extend Rome’s rule from the Euphrates to the Indus and enslave the whole of Parthia. The scene is set for a final showdown on the battlefield of Carrhae, a clash that will decide the destinies of two empires and two men.

A map of the Parthian Empire at the time of Pacorus (the 1st century BC) can be found on the maps page of my website.

Tears in my eyes as all the great characters of the journey come to their glorious climax. One of the best reads to keep your mind busy in these times

This is a great finish to the Parthian series, lots of battle action, tactics and character interaction as in the first three books of the series.

I am very pleased to listen that audible.

I really like the story, and this is a story more than a history which is fine. Historical fiction is tough, but this is a good balance that gets you invested in the characters. Even Pacorus, the hero has several glaring faults, but that adds to the realism that people aren't perfect. In his case, he needs to shut up from time to time.

The only thing I'd change, is the narrator. In no way am I trying to be insulting to the narrator, who did a good job, but the first three books had a narrator who have each character a voice and manner, which I became very used to. So, with the books going forward, I hope they go back to him. I would listen to another book by this narrator though.

Very Good

The story was good and engaging but the narration left a lot to be desired. The first 3 books narrator was 8/10 who could imitate flawlessly different voices specially the tough male worriers and old women witch seemlessly as if the book has different narrators! But for this one they chose a different narrator that in spite of best effort was an a mature at best and sort of killed the buzz. Overall worths listening to.

Pity the narrator was trying hard but no match for the first 3 book’s narrator

Almost done with it, not quite. It's shorter than book three, and that was good. But all four books were interesting and inspiring.

Very happy to listen this great book.

With ease the author surmises the journey of Pacorus. I would not change a sentence. A great twist on the legends of Spartacus and Pacorus

Wow, Very excellent audiobook for me!

A page-turner that I enjoyed from beginning to end. Peter Darman writes so well I can almost smell the horses and taste the wine.

Really good audiobook to listen!!!

At first, I hated the narration. He didn’t sound as “war lord” and “tough” as previous books. I almost gave up…but then I didn’t. I ended up loving the story! I got swept up and at the end…I wept. This is so well written! So well told! I highly recommend!

Give this one a chance!
