Publisher's summary

Amid the carnage of the 100 Years War - the bloodiest conflict in medieval history - a young English archer confronts his destiny....

England, 1346: For Thomas Blackstone, the choice is easy - dance on the end of a rope for a murder he did not commit, or take up his war bow and join the king's invasion.

As he fights his way across northern France, Blackstone learns the brutal lessons of war - from the terror and confusion of his first taste of combat, to the savage realities of siege warfare.

Blackstone will brave the terrors of the High Alps in winter, face the Black Prince in tournament, confront the bloody anarchy of a popular revolt, and emerge from the Battle of Crecy as a knight.

He may yet defy death but he can't defy his destiny: Master of War.

Collected in a single volume for the first time, the first three novels in the epic Master of War series, comprising of: Master of War, Defiant unto Death, and Gate of the Dead.

Outstanding story and narration.

So very enjoyable! Excellent research and the narration and story are first class. Don't want it to end! . . . Edit/update: the above was written during second book section. I will now express that Sir Thomas should have left his sniveling, back-stabbing wife when he had the chance(s).

Master of War (1-3)

A great series so far. I truly enjoyed Cornell’s Saxon Chronicles & Audible suggested these Books. I was pleasantly surprised. They’re every bit as exciting, engaging & entertaining. I’ll definitely continue the rest of the series.

I so enjoy reading historical fiction that stays close to truth. The first and third books are all 5. Am going to get the next now!

The sword fights

Great story about a tumultuous time. Historically accurate about the conflict between England and France over the French crown

Awesome

Nicely written and read. Humorous at times with banter between characters. Please note: By submitting your review you confirm you have read and agree to Audible’s Customer Review Guidelines. Box set

I really enjoyed the story. Well written. The Christiana character I found to be extremely self centered, selfish and disrespectful of her husband, putting a damper on anything that had to do with her. Otherwise an outstanding story with some really fantastic characters. I will listen to the set at least a couple more times.

what a story, EPIC!

nothing, a little slow in part 1 of each but still very good, once he says part 2, hold onto your shorts. It's about to go down.

Excellent Historical Fiction

I thoroughly enjoyed all three of these books in the boxed set., and found the author’s approach to character development and story to be believable and well constructed. It describes the toughness and brutality of this period of history, yet adds moments of humor and compassion. You won’t be disappointed.
