About this listen

One prisoner’s ninety-year murder conviction becomes another prisoner’s crusade in this ongoing true account of an unlikely friendship forged behind bars and the enduring power of hope.

For seventeen years and counting, Robert Chattler has made good on his promise to help exonerate his former cellmate, Lee Harris, who he believes was baited and duped by Chicago PD and buried by the false testimony of a bribed witness. In this emotional story of courage and trust, suspicion and sacrifice, the award-winning journalist Tori Marlan reveals the uncanny friendship powering an impassioned fight for justice.

Tori Marlan’s Cellmates is part of Southside, a collection of five true stories about racism and reform, crime and corruption, justice and injustice in Chicago - from the Pulitzer Prize-winning team at The Marshall Project. Each story can be listened to in a single sitting.

Good read. Informative. Very interesting. The reader was good. I'd re-listen. The look into the criminal justice system, facinating.

A very interesting book and makes you think about those who are incarcerated. I just didn’t like the ending. I was looking for closure

Amazing devotion from a first time inmate to his first cell mate. The older cell mate tells our younger man, Led that he is innocent and Lee promises to help him. I don't want to spoil this for anyone, but l enjoyed it, and think you will too.

Verl enjoyed the book very much.

What a great way to get basic information to the public, without the BS of mainstream media or lawyers you cannot trust. With basic information like this, at a minimum the public can send letters of encouragement to both men, and very importantly, to system officials making it difficult to get the DNA retested, receive transcripts and all of the other things the injustice system often does to cover their asses or their office's asses. Hopefully when I search your name on Audible I can listen to more stories....will search for updates on the case and visit website. I'm very interested in the death of the sister from viral encephalitis....I don't want to tell you why but I managed, barely, to survive it in the 80s. How old was she and what year did she pass? THANK YOU AGAIN...it's nice to NOT feel helpless for once in a long while in this insane world!!

AUDIBLE, Please push stories like this harder!

This depiction of police misconduct, leading to the lengthy incarceration of an innocent person, is appalling.

Appalling

Cellmate promises to look into other cellmates case once he gets out, since he claims he was innocent. What one man did to help the other, is very heart warming.
