An old favorite of mine. If you like David Webber, BV Larson or Jack Campbell you will like this one.
Narrator was quite good.

Great Space Opera

I thought the first book was great.......this one is an absolutely stunning tale of command under crisis, a tour DE force, almost study, of a problematic command conscience I am sure many good and great command officers must deal with.
A further, fantastic meld of a great writer, narrator, and undeniable production values make this by far one of the best listens I have had the pleasure to lose sleep over..
This story deserves accolades galore, and I am almost afraid to start the next one....not currently being able to conceive how this one could be followed by a better one.....but looking forward to finding out..........
A Veteran.......

An absolute stunner.......

So after binge listening to this series, I’d have to pick Challenger’s Hope as one of the best books in the Seafort saga. Unlike the next books in this series, there are plenty of space battles and ship side fighting. It also portrays the bureaucracy that exists when corrupt people are in charge. It’s enough to make you want to climb into the book to smack someone.

What got to be a little old was how Nick Seafort would have so much contempt for how some captains treated the crew but in the next breath he is acting 10 times worse than those captains. I think he may have some anger management issues.

This book is pretty good, but unfortunately the series goes downhill from here.

Best one in the series

Nick the protagonist spends more time vacillating without understanding his goals.
Difficult to get through.

It is absolutely awesome! I couldn't put it down. Stayed up the whole night listening. David Feintuch is a superb writer. As for Vikas Adam, he is fantastic! I am continuing with book three. There were certain parts in the book when i even cried for his heartaches and the tragedy that befall his wife and child. I wanted so much for him to have some happiness. I hope Mr Feintuch will write some pleasures for Captain Seafort. He can be rather stern at times but he was brought up that way and also his discipline in the navy is what is expected of him. It is rather hard for him to change. All in all I admire his character and personality. I am so... glad I found this series.

ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC. BEST SF SERIES!

Although this book was much darker than book 1, I went through it faster. I usually listen while on the road, but caught myself listening at the house when no one else was home. I do have mixed feelings about this series of books though. With all the soberness and pain that the main character feels, I am reluctant to listen to the next one in the series. I think I will in the future, but need a break for now.

Much darker than book 1.

Two books full of neurotic protagonist will be all I can take of this series

Neurosis expanded

I read the second of this series in hope that the protagonist would mature and learn to lead through team-building and encouragement of his crew. Nope, he is still the same petty tyrannical immature jerk that he was in the first novel. I will not bother reading further, even though the oremise is original, and the writing excellent.

Caine Mutiny meets space navy

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

If the main character could have done something interesting instead of beating himselfup over and over again. Quit being so neurotic.

What was most disappointing about David Feintuch’s story?

The character could quit being so short sighted. I understand that he is only 21 but he seems to make the same mistakes over and over again.

Have you listened to any of Vikas Adam’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

He needs to take longer breaks between scenes

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

Nope.

Any additional comments?

I wont even bother to finish the series. Too whiny

Too much pity
