Publisher's summary

An Amazon Charts and Wall Street Journal bestseller.

Falling in love can come with the most unexpected risks in this First Wives novel from New York Times bestselling author Catherine Bybee.

Avery Grant doesn’t date. Her first marriage was a mutually beneficial contract that gave her the financial freedom she needed to step away from her controlling parents. Wealthy and single, the last thing she’s looking for is love sneaking in to mess up her life plans. And after a brutal attack, she’s determined to never be vulnerable again, even if the new man in her life helps her feel safe.

Mesmerized from the moment he sets his eyes on Avery, Liam is driven to learn everything about this tough, sexy, challenging woman. Breaking down her defenses won’t be easy, but Liam refuses to be pushed away. All he needs is a tiny crack in Avery’s armor to wiggle his way into her heart.

But when a terrifying lie about her attacker’s fate comes to light, Avery’s past returns to haunt her. Now she’s willing to put herself in danger to get the answers she needs. That means jeopardizing the best thing that’s ever happened to her: Liam.

LOVE IT!!!

Well, 1st I'll like to say I have another favorite author to add to my list; Catherine Bybee, YEA!!!
Kindle Unlimited is offering FREE read and listen on her "First Wives Series" 4 books currently, so I figure I would check it out and fell in love with all 4 books.
The narrator was AWESOME and she was the same one 4 all the books.
There's new storylines in each one, with mystery, suspense + humor; here n' there.
I definitely recommend all 4 books and I'm looking forward to more of her books. Ω

Romantic suspense!

Love all the books in this series! Endearing characters. True love and a bit of suspense as Avery looks for her attacker. Slow building romance between Avery and Liam as she works through the trauma in her past. SO good......

Another great book in this wonderful series.

This is another great book in another wonderful series by Catherine Buber. I did not want it to finish. I really enjoyed this book and series and am hoping there will be more books to continue. The audio version is great and Emma Wilder does a wonderful job of narrating.

My favorite so far in this series! Great narration

This might be my favorite of the series so far. I really liked Avery and her new found fighting skills. She was on a mission to never get beat on again! I liked Liam too. He was handsome and smart. I was kind of worried in the beginning when he was kind of stalkery... but that moved on quickly.

I enjoyed the story line and plot. It all flowed very well and was well written. There was a lot of dialogue throughout the entire book. There is a couple of sex scenes but they were nicely written not rated G or X. Just well written.

I don't know if Catherine Bybee reads her reviews but if you do CB can you please do a book about Sasha please! I am dying to know about her character. She is kind of awesome! Thanks.

As for the narration it was excellent. I enjoyed it a lot. Emma Wilder did a great job on all the voices and has a very nice reading voice.

Thriller, Mystery and Romance in One Book

Chasing Shadows is the third book in the First Wives Series. It can be read as a stand-alone book but I do recommend books 1 & 2 about some of Avery's best friends and some backstory about her attacker.

Avery was a client of Alliance. After her recent divorce from her arranged marriage, she wants to use her new wealth and freedom from her controlling parents to shop, enjoy one night stands and have fun. This plan works great until one day she is grabbed from behind and severely beaten and kicked. Now hospitalized with no memory of her attacker, her life has taken a major turn.

After reconstructive surgery and a lot of healing, Avery's new goal is to defend herself from an attacker she doesn't even remember. The police think they know her attacker from some video footage and he is dead. She doesn't recall anything looking at his photo. She takes some krav maga classes to be able to defend herself. She meets Liam and she won't date him. He starts being her attacker in her private krav maga classes to help her with her anxiety. Liam also learns krav maga in a group class setting. They share some after workout meals and then begin dating.

When Avery starts to get memories back over two years later, what will she do and how will it change things with Liam?
