About this listen

A sabotaged airship.

A recovering opium addict.

A messenger with life-shattering news.

With the 1824 British airship qualifying race only weeks away, Lily Stargazer is at the top of her game. She's racing like a pro, truly in love, and living clean. But on one ill-omened day, everything changes.

Pulled headlong into the ancient secrets of the realm, Lily soon finds herself embroiled in Celtic mysteries and fairy lore. And she's not quite sure how she got there, or even if she wants to be involved. But Lily soon finds herself chasing the spirit of the realm while putting her own ghosts to rest. And only accepting the truth - about her heart and her country - can save her.

A fun filled addition to the series

This was a fun ride and some surprises that I didn’t see coming. I like the direction of the series right now and I do hope there will be another book. Keep them coming please

We fall deeper into this world than expected!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes I would recommend it. The book moves along as we ache with the characters. The voice of the story helps pull us through the times when we feel saddened. We need to move on to see the amazing that's in store for us afterward.

What did you like best about this story?

I liked best was the completely unexpected turn about half way through the book. We come into a part of the world we never knew to exist here. And it's magical, mysterious, and fascinating!

Also, in the end, I felt that everyone has doubts and regrets. But it's how you handle them or live with them that matters. Let it shut you down or open up and clear them to move on.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

I liked the performance for the accents. Accents feel very important to the characters to go with who they are. The voice is also lulling in that she feels as there is still hope in the low moments. Sometimes there wasn't much of a difference between the voices of the secondary characters to know who's talking.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

The book made my heart ache. I felt a tear at one point too.

Any additional comments?

We get detailed visits to Lily's past with Lord Byron and her ship, the Stargazer. Byron has been a huge part of Lily's life since she got the Stargazer, actually, just before she purchased the Stargazer. And unexpectedly he helped her in the purchase of it, and not in the normal fashion. Byron is one that Lily will always hold close to her heart.

This story has it's heartache and what affects Lily deeply. This is a turn of a corner for Lily, once again. But the heartache will take Lily on a new adventure in the air and in her heart. About half way through the story this drastic turn comes to light. This new turn caught my attention and drew me to wonder what would come next and where we would go. It's almost as the second part of the book is a different story. Mysterious and magical. The first half was emotional and the second half brings us to a curious feeling.

Melanie has packed a lot of leads in the first five chapters. Much to come to pass and work it's way out as the story continues. And oh so much more to learn. There is much more to this world in which we are just starting to scratch the top of the barrel of. We get to see more of what the series is named after; The Airship Racing Chronicles. We get to see the league and ride in a race with Lily.

Chasing the Green Fairy

This is a fast paced steampunk adventure. We have air ship races being dominated by Lily Stargazer,a,WOMAN of all things. She is busily working on her ship to enter a race when there is sabotage. This leads to the chase mentioned in the title. We also have a relationship between Lily and a figure from history,Fairy magic and an addiction that may be her undoing.Danielle Cohen was the perfect narrator.I was provided this. book free by the author ,narrator or publisher.

Not Absinthe but a magical fairy

Fast paced, emotional, challenging, and magical. While this book is fine as a stand alone, the reader would be enriched by becoming involved with the first of this series. Anyone who has faced shattering problems in life can easily relate to Lily and her devoted companions. A compelling read.
Danielle proves to be a capable audio performer, and her character interpretations truly enhance.
This book was a gift

The journey continues ...

It was wonderful to dive back into the journey of Lily Stagazer. Picking up right where you left off in the first book of the series, we get to journey through her trying to navigate her new semi-so sober life and finding purpose in the world. Full of magic, mystery, and romance it was well worth the read.

Although the narrator changes from book one to book two, this narrator, Danielle Cohen was wonderful to listen too. I loved her tempo, character voices, and over energy she brought to each character.

I would recommend this book.

This book was given to me in exchange for an honest review.

exciting steampunk with a strong female lead

Fantastic! Even better than the first one in the series! After the first one I was mournign how easily Lily and Byron parted ways, and this book gave me all the emotional payoff that I could have wanted. The steampunk is mostly limited to the airships, which keeps the tinkering from being too contrived, and theairship racing in this book is great. Lily at the top of her game is so fun and exciting. The new addition to the series of the world of Arcadia really opens the story up for more adventures and higher stakes of tension and daring. I love Lily as a strong female lead. In this book she gives in to her destructive tendencies a bit more but I appreciate that her failings are still decisive rather than waffling and weakness. The revelations into her backstory were compelling and helped me get invested into the character, even as I watched her making some poor life choices.

As with her other books, Karsak writes smooth, believable, snappy dialogue and exciting action sequences. In this book, she amps up the emotional impact with the telling of the Byron story, which really invested me in the book. There is almost nothing that I can quibble about in the book, and enjoyed every second of the read!

NOTE: I recieved a free copy of the audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
