About this listen

The Great War has ended at last. Archaeologist Amelia Peabody and her husband, Emerson, the distinguished Egyptologist, no longer fear for the life of their daring son, Ramses, now free from his dangerous wartime obligations to British Intelligence. Delightful new additions to the growing Emerson family and new wonders waiting to be discovered beneath the shifting Egyptian sands mark a time of new beginnings in Luxor.

However, the theft of valuable antiquities from the home of a friend - including a magnificent gold bracelet adorned with the image of the goddess Hathor - causes great concern. Ramses' encounter with a woman costumed in the veil and gold crown of Hathor herself only deepens the mystery.

With those in her circle suddenly plagued by a series of accidents Amelia attempts to connect these troubling threads into a pattern. But her investigation is setting her on a collision course with an adversary more formidable than any she has ever encountered.

Performed by Barbara Rosenblat.

Another great adventure

Barbara Rosenblat brings one of the great Egyptologist detective couples to life again in another funny, gripping mystery. One learns so much about Egyptian culture, history, archaeology and her struggle for independence after WWI. it's a most enjoyable way to learn about this ancient civilization.

Delightful as Always!

Every sojourn back into Egypt with this crew is fun! And Barbera’s narration, as always, both astounds and delights!

Children of the Storm

if you like this series you will love this book. I hate to see this series come to an end. it is a very relaxing, yet not boring, series if you enjoy a bit of history on the side.

Another great story, full of twists and turns

Barbara Rosenblat’s narration adds so much delight to the whole story. Amelia Peabody Emerson is in fine form, and this story is a great addition to the saga.

Another great adventure in Egypt

The Emersons are again having a fine time trying to excavate when dastardly events continue to get in their way. Always humorous and full of intrigue, I highly recommend it.

Fabulous! Another amazing story

I completely enjoyed this book. The plot had many surprises I can’t wait to read the next one. Elizabeth Peters mixes suspense, romance and humor all in one story.

Amelia dumfounds me again—as I chortle at her

Amelia and Emerson and their enormous and motley, talented family weave in and out of mishaps, til the end, clueless. Amelia and Emerson’s usual contest of competing to discover and fit together clues just is not up to snuff, as the events grow more and more alarming and dangerous. Suddenly an old memory pops up, “while doing something else.” But then it is a race to save two of this daring family—and “the treasure.” The whole cast plays the parts perfectly, according to each distinct personality. How Ms Peters mapped all this out through the many complexities of so many books, and still surprises us—masterful—and hilarious.
