Entertaining

I enjoyed this book. Spoiler Alert. This book is not Biblically accurate, but it is exciting as well as entertaining fiction!

Good Historical Fiction

The authors writing style is a mixture of Dan Brown, and Robert Ludlum. I felt like I was listening about Jason Bourne, going on a quest to find lost treasure.

A fun airport/beach read

I have always been a fan of the adventure stories told by Alister Maclean and Clive Cussler … and the Dane Maddock Adventures are definitely along the lines of Cussler’s Dirk Pit (especially toward the later part of the series when the quality dropped a little). These are all what I generally refer to as airport novels (fun entertainment to while away the time while you wait for something else) or perhaps a beach read. Cibola is the 3 book of the series (and I would recommend getting the volume 1 audible collection to get the most for your credit). It introduces Jade Ihara who eventually gets her own spin-off and a shadow organization known as the Dominion (they appear to play the part of Belloq from the Indiana Jones series). Cibola plays on the 16th century myth of the Seven Cities of Gold and centers the action in the American midwest. It is basically a race to unravel the clues and discover the treasure trope that gets a little silly toward the end bringing in Egyptian myth and a wild stretch toward a few well known biblical events. While over all, the story was interesting and fun as a diversion, in the end it tried to do too much and didn’t feel as satisfying as the other stories from Wood.

I was given this free advance listener copy (ALC) audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Another Excellent Dane & Bones Adventure

Would you consider the audio edition of Cibola to be better than the print version?

I have not read the print edition, but this audio edition was outstanding.

What did you like best about this story?

I always enjoy the artifacts that they search for in this series. The historical ties are always well-documented, and it makes it fun to follow. I also like the places they visit, and really enjoyed the Anasazi connection.

Which character – as performed by Jeffrey Kafer – was your favorite?

Bones is always my favorite character, and I think Jeffrey Kafer does an excellent job of bringing his personality out.

Any additional comments?

I know that I am late to the party in discovering this series, but now that I have, I can't get enough. This story takes Dane and Bones across the American southwest, visiting landmarks such as the ruins of the Anasazi. Of course they have two beautiful women working with them, one of them being Jade Ihara.
I listened to the audiobook version of this story and I have to admit that there were some laugh out loud moments for me with the comments made by Bones. Jeffrey Kafer did a wonderful job with the narration, and I am heading to Audible to see which story I want to listen to next.

A must read for Indiana jones fans

David wood created masterful stories that include tidbits of history that will lead you to google search and find more to learn about the backstories of his plots. If you like action adventure and treasure hunting a la Indiana jones this is a must. And after listening to so many I must say that I can’t imagine anyone else as the voice of Dane and bones other than Jeffrey. Great listen as always!
