About this listen

Shannon McMurphy travels to Asherville, Texas as a mail order bride expecting to marry a rancher. Instead, her intended is a saloonkeeper. Her refusal to marry enrages John Hardy and he slices her cheek with a knife so no other man would want her. She runs into the street and no one helps her until blond, blue-eyed Cinders rescues her.

Sexy rancher Cinders saves Shannon and offers her a job. To protect her reputation he must marry her. They both agree it's a marriage of convenience. He admires her spunk and willingness to learn everything about surviving the Texas frontier. He waits for her to ask to go home but she never does.

They learn a lot about each other through, stolen horses, Indian troubles, a cattle drive and the busybodies of the town. Their attraction for each other grows, but can they learn to trust enough to love?

Join me in Asherville, Texas and see how this love story unfolds.

I really liked this story. As mentioned before, the author uses too many modern terms. If you’re going to write historical fiction you should at least try to using the correct style of language. The narrator is AWFUL. The tone of voice she uses for every character is wrong. They sound angry when sad, happy, being romantic, just about always. The only other tone she gives them is irritating like an adult coddling a toddler.

Good story but...

I enjoyed this a very sweet story? I do love my mail order bride girls and this one did not disappoint as far as the storyline goes. I do wish the editor of this book was a little more mindful of the language used during this time period. For example "That would be great" most likely was not used. If you can overlook those little boo-boos it was enjoyable.

Sweet story

What made the experience of listening to Cinders' Bride the most enjoyable?

Julie Hoverson's performance of "Cookie".

Have you listened to any of Julie Hoverson’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This is the first book I have heard Julie perform. I normally do not like female narrators, but Julie is good!

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Sometimes taking a chance pays off.

Any additional comments?

Kathleen delivers a great story with wonderful characters! Cinders is a man who is afraid to love, but made for it and Shannon is a woman who's strength is much more she or Cinders could ever imagine. Put a noisy, grumpy but lovable old cook to play cupid, and you have a great story!

Great start to a great series!

“This audiobook was given by the author, narrator, or publisher at no cost in exchange for an unbiased review via Audiobook Boom.”

Classic mail order bride, lying, abusive groom to be, good guy rescuer marriage of convenience or is it. Some tender, sweet moments along with some where you just want to slap most of the male characters.

The narration was well done. The characters were well portrayed.Julie Hoverson does a fantastic job!

The storyline was good, but wish I’d just purchased the kindle version. That is what I’ll do with the following books in the series. The narration was so bad I almost didn’t finish listening, but had used one of my credits in audible. The narrator came off as whiny and pathetic and her male voices were almost worse. The narrator took away from the story instead of adding to it.

One of my favorites by Kathleen Ball
