The plot could have been fleshed out to make it more interesting. There were no surprises in the story. The narrator’s female voices sounded like a child and he did not use any emotions.

Sweet but shallow

This is a short story that is full of action and suspense. Pat is a woman. She works in a logging camp as a male. After her father died she wasn’t sure what to do. She decided to keep up the charade. Her boss Sam has no clue Pat, the cook, is a woman. What will happen when he finds out?

Pat had a lot of stress put upon her being a male. She was secretive and tried to be invisible. They way she tried to keep herself from the men noticing her was cute. She had to face bullies among other thing that happen in the camp. The biggest question is can she show them she is a girl? And what will happen then?

This is a first time author for me. Although the story is short there is a lot that happens. It easily kept my interest. I listened to this on audio. Evan Schmitt is the narrator and he does a wonderful job. My only wish was when he sounded like Pat. Maybe not such a girly voice. She was pretending to be a boy. Although that might be too hard. Talk like a girl being a boy. Haha!

Loved this historical romance and Par aka Patricia is everything a strong woman in a time when the woman were not treated with respect. Samuel is a hero if there ever was one he's perfect.

Loved this book

I really like this story. It has all the key elements of a good love story. We have our leading lady finding herself in trouble when her father dies. She is the only woman in a all - male logging camp. So she dresses as a boy and becomes the cook. All the men like her cooking. All is good until the so called engaged woman of our leading man steps in and creates trouble and drama. This is a well written story with a great performance by the narrator.

Enjoy the story!

"I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review." I was born during the World War II era and have always enjoyed stories pertaining to that time. This is a cute story of a war bride and her adjustment to America. Maggie Cameron is a Scottish Bride, who was formally a motorcycle currier for the British Army. When she arrives in America it is hard for hler to see the abundance of food and other supplies, compared to the deprevation of her country. I really enjoyed this book by Kathleen Ball and narrated by Evan Schmitt.

WL is an amazing emotional tale of the life of lumberjacks. Evan Schmitt narration of it was just perfect! He knew exactly how to bring out every emotion!

This story proves that a book doesn't have to be long to be a complete, satisfying love story. The characters were fully fleshed out, and I became attached to them and emotionally involved in their struggles. I love stories about girls pretending to be boys and stepping into a man's world, and this was the historical romance version of that. This was more than just an interesting scenario though. I really felt for Patricia with how alone and vulnerable she was. I thought that everything was believable and very well thought out by the author. Samuel was a wonderful love interest, and I was so glad that he was there for Patricia. The gender reveal was sexy and natural. Evan Schmitt did a great job narrating. I've found a terrific new narrator!

I asked to receive this Audible book and voluntarily wrote this unbiased review. Although this is a short story, it is filled with adventure. I like how the author shows the listener how Pat feels as she must lead her life disguised as a boy. When Samuel learns her secret, she wishes there could be more between them. Maybe there will be. The narrator does a good job of storytelling. I highly recommend this Audible book.

Sexy lumberjack!

The storyline was good but I would have better enjoyed the book if there had been additional character and plot development. There was ample opportunity for the author to build out her world and develop more interest in the main characters. Would like to see what the author could do in a longer book.

A Good Short Story.
