About this listen

From USA Today best-selling author Catherine Bruns comes a boxed set of three full-length mysteries featuring real estate agent Cindy York that include:

Killer Transaction

All struggling agent Cindy York wants is the real estate listing promised to her, but co-worker Tiffany Roberts has other ideas. After Cindy tells her to back off, she stumbles upon the woman's lifeless body and suddenly finds herself as the number one suspect. Cindy has no choice but to discover who's trying to frame her, before the next contract is out on her!

Priced to Kill

Real estate agent and super sleuth, Cindy York, has always been haunted by the suicide death of childhood friend Paul Steadman 25 years ago. When his former home goes up for sale, new information comes to light that convinces Cindy that Paul’s death was anything but self-inflicted. Vowing justice for her friend, Cindy’s must close the deal and find a killer—before she too winds up six feet under!

For Sale by Killer

It's been a tough winter for agent Cindy York and she's desperate for a juicy commission. When she stumbles across a quaint mansion that's for sale by owner Percy Rodgers, she can hardly believe her luck. But best bud Jacques quickly tells her that Mr. Rodgers neighborhood is a dangerous place to play, since the man just served 20 years for murdering his wife. Before Cindy can axe the deal, she discovers a dead body in the house. If she isn't careful, this may end up being one deal that really is to die for.

I enjoyed these 3 stories for their mystery qualities and entertaining twists & turns to the plots. But I was put off by several outdated characters and sub plots that seem stuck in the 70s.

Sure, there's a gay best friend, for a modern spin, but that's not enough. Why do we need another story with a stereotypical critical mother in law? What is the point of more female characters hostile and resentful of other women for no reason? Why is there a protagonist who has no idea how to respond to a homophobic character? I’ll read more from this author if she can bring ALL her characters into the 21st century.

Entertaining but dated

The narrator did a good job. She speaks clearly and puts enough emotion in her narration, which made the story come alive. And that’s what I always hope will happen when I listen to any audiobook, that it’s like a movie in my head.

Any Bruns-book is well worth your time, always. Well written, well plotted and with well developed characters that you can’t help but love. This series keeps impressing me.

So entertaining!

Catherine Bruns has penned a well-written, engaging series with Cindy York, a real estate agent who just wants to provide the best service to clients wishing to sell their home and make a fair living for herself and her children. However, in these three clever mysteries with twists and turns and satisfying endings, she runs into a “scruples free” colleague in “Killer Transaction,” resurfacing tragic events in “Priced to Kill,” and a problematic listing in “For Sale by Killer” all leading to business worries, perilous closings, and more than a few dead bodies. But she isn't alone in all this as she joined by a delightful partner, loving husband, cringe-worthy mother-in-law, a trying teenager and overactive twin eight year olds, and, of course, Karma taking point! Using a first-person narrative with Cindy’s perspective readers are entertained and informed by her inner thoughts, fears, frustrations, and closeness to family and friends. Excellent series with compelling investigations, entertaining characters, and surprises that'll make you a fan!

Catherine’s books come in several formats from print to digital to my favorite … audio! I am a big fan of audiobooks that not only let me relive the pleasure of being read to, but, due to the talented voice artist Amy Deuchler, enjoying a great performance of various character voices portraying well personality, age, and gender and adding all the emotions a murder mystery offers from frustration to fear with a few giggles thrown in. This three book set is 21-1/2 hours of great entertainment with excellent quality and easy use on any device. Catherine’s work is the star, a favorite on my cozy mystery list, and Amy Deuchler has greatly enriched my enjoyment.

The one star is for the comedic value of how bad this is. Don’t waste your money

Utter Drivel

It was hard to get thru...the old stereotypes of the gay friend, annoying mother in law and that Cindy is less self sufficient than a lot of women these days, its like something out of the 50's. I was disappointed, as I was looking for something new but I doubt that I will continue with this series. The narrator could have been better as well...but that's just my opinion.

Its just ok...
