Publisher's summary

An Iranian, a Bohemian, and an Irishman walk into a bar. It isn’t a joke. It’s Conor McBride’s latest mission.

Conor McBride has accepted a bargain he may live to regret, if he gets to live at all. Lured by the chance to resume his career as a violinist, he’s agreed to extract a defecting Iranian from Prague. He’s been promised a simple, stitched-up mission, but as he might have expected, it unravels into chaos as soon as he arrives. The Iranian has endangered his own life with a shocking indiscretion; a suspicious MI6 agent is hatching a plan that could start an international crisis; a mystery stranger is tailing Conor’s every move; and he has less than a week to master a sonata he hasn’t looked at in years.

As if that weren’t enough, the partner he’s brought with him is a freshly trained operative he couldn’t persuade to stay home. Conor hopes his relationship with Kate Chatham is on track to become a different sort of partnership, but his desire to shield her from the covert part of his life was no match for her determination to share in its risks.

Working together, they soon discover the fabled lanes of Prague are not half as twisted as the secrets everyone is hiding. Exposing them won’t be easy...or safe.

The Best in the series

City of a Thousand Spies: The Conor McBride Series, Book 3 - The best in the series (so far). This book is so much more than a mere spy thriller, it is tension filled, has periods of action, is sensitive and Kathryn paints the most beautiful pictures of Prague with her writing.
Wayne Farrell's narration is top class and so in tune with Conor, When I'm listening it is like listening to an Irish friend.

I loved the book, but the audiobook was better

I loved the narrator for this story! I loved the book, but have enjoyed listening to the audio book better. The story is a kind of romantic mystery, full of surprises, suspense and espionage. Love Kathryn Guare as an author. I have read all her books. An entertaining contribution to the literary arts. Well Done.

Excellent Thriller!

City of a Thousand Spies by Kathryn Guare pulled me in from the very beginning. I loved all of the twists this book had. I found this book to be a great standalone listen and part of a series. I was extremely impressed by Wayne Farrell with his narration. I could hear exactly who was speaking. I really loved the imagery in this book too. I could envision so much with the words the author painted in my mind. I requested this review copy audiobook and have voluntarily written this review. I will most definitely listen to more books by this author and narrator.

Kathryn Guare writes and excellent story. I especially the way she lays out the story. Kathryn adds intrigue, action, double cross, romance, a little humor and politics. Well done.

I. Love. This. Series.

This Conor McBride series is easily one of my favorites!!! Conor and Kate are the new Jamie and Claire Fraser from The Outlander series. Conor and Kate are meant to be together and the strength of one does not compromise the strength of the other. Their union of equals is pretty special.

In this book, Kate has become an MI6 agent herself and she and Conor are headed out to save the day as a team. Things happen - well a lot of things happen - and the mystery and suspense just kept unfolding.

The narration was exceptional, in every sense of the word. Conor is Irish, Kate is American. They encountered Saudis and Czech's and the narrator nailed each and every one. That was special

I love this series and can't wait for more!

A Real Fun Adventure

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This is the third book in a series [Conner McBride - The Virtuosic Spy]. I have not read either of the preceding novels [Deceptive Cadence [1st] or Secret Chord [2nd] in this series. I felt that this was a stand alone story -- with some references to previous adventures -- that can be enjoyed without having to read the prior books. But, having said that, I am going to read the prior two novels so I can spend some more time the fabulous characters Conner and Kate.

Conner and Kate travel to Prague for this adventure. The author brings this city to life with her words. You absolutely feel as though you are in Prague with the characters. I am not a fan of classical music -- but, when I read the descriptions of the classical pieces played by Conner, it gave me a new perspective and a desire to listen to some classical music.

This story has a lot of wit and very charming moments. I was hooked from the beginning -- the excitement, the peril, the twists, the romance. And I loved the introduction of Winny -- a great sidekick to Conner and Kate - who I hope will continue in further adventures. I look forward to reading more adventures with Conner and Kate.

The narrator, Wayne Farrell, is absolutely perfect. He captures Conner's sexiness and nonchalance perfectly. He is able to heighten the suspense or convey the wit of the story through his inflections. I will be looking for more books narrated by him.
