About this listen

Brooklyn’s annual Caribbean American Heritage Festival is finally here, and Spice Isle Bakery is thrilled to be one of the event’s food vendors. After all, the Murrays have been attending the festival for years. Co-owner Lyndsay Murray hopes their West Indian pastries and finger foods draw people back to the bakery in Little Caribbean. She’s looking forward to having fun, connecting with customers, and celebrating with her family.

But the day's festivities are cut short when Camille, lead singer of an up-and-coming reggae band, dies. The police think it may be a tragic accident. But Lyndsay’s cousin Manny was close to Camille, and he believes someone cut her life short. Now Manny needs Lyndsay’s help to make sure a killer faces the music.

Road trip mystery

this series was a good intro for my tween into a different genre. I've struggled to find a book she likes. I totally enjoyed thus series. it's not as dark & heavy as the suspense audible i usually chose. very engaging & bonus, didn't have to shut it off when the k8d got it the car

Such an engaging family!

The entertaining Grenadian family centered in this mystery series has engaged me from the very beginning! Ms. Matthews draws a colorful, detailed picture of the lively Carribbean neighborhood where the bakery is located and in each entry, you learn more about the community and the family.
In this story, I was particularly taken by the story of Granny Genevieve who is, in my mind, the heart of the family. She provides loving support, wide counsel and the occasional folk tale (I agree with Dev and Lyndsay about those scary babies!) as she holds court in the bakery every day. Finding out more about her past was a special part of the story to me, and I'm hoping to learn even more in the next installment!
The mystery kept me attention throughout the book and the cast of characters were well developed. I enjoyed the dialogue from both the young folks and the elders in the bakery as well as the descriptions of the food. The recipes in back are an added bonus!
Janina Edwards is one of my favorite narrators and she gave a great narration, with all of the characters clearly defined by voice.
Can't wait for the next one!
