Publisher's summary
Caleb Worthington always imagined himself playing college football and marrying a cheerleader, not working fields and isolating himself on his family’s ranch. But when society collapses, dreams do too.
So he clings to the only thing left. Family.
As the supply chain crumbles, people soon realize food doesn’t come from stores and those who live at the source have the advantage. Not everyone wants to work for that asset. Having faced marauders invading the Worthington farm once, Caleb is ready to defend his household and their property again.
Now a new threat looms.
A blackmailer has targeted Caleb, forcing him to make a choice—trust his loved ones with the terrible truth of why his former best friend is dead or risk losing everything to hide it.
But nothing stays buried forever.
The Death of Honor, book two of the Collapse Series, a post-apocalyptic, young adult novel. Explore this nail-biting cliff-hanger by Angela D. Shelton.

Before the lights went out, Jack Warrant never considered himself a prepper. That was someone on the edge, a conspiracy theorist or a doomsday cultist who had a fatalistic view of the world. He was neither a theorist nor a cultist. He was an optimist. At least that was what he told himself when the darker thoughts creeped into his psyche as he stared at the ceiling in the middle of the night. Whenever he started down the rabbit hole, he always clawed his way back into the sunlight.

Refuge, New Hampshire, is a small town. The kind found on postcards. Their biggest concern is the rowdy summertime revelers making their way up from Massachusetts and New York. And with most of the town's residents in neighboring Ashland, for the Fourth of July fireworks show, Refuge is quieter than usual. That is, until the Baptist church's bell starts ringing - on its own. The bell chimes faster and faster, reaching a frenetic pace, as though rung by the Devil himself. But the bell is just the beginning.

Olivia McAfee knows what it feels like to start over. Her picture-perfect life—living in Boston, married to a brilliant cardiothoracic surgeon, raising their beautiful son, Asher—was upended when her husband revealed a darker side. She never imagined that she would end up back in her sleepy New Hampshire hometown, living in the house she grew up in and taking over her father’s beekeeping business. Lily Campanello is familiar with do-overs, too. When she and her mom relocate to Adams, New Hampshire, for her final year of high school, they both hope it will be a fresh start.

Story
It’s been three years since the Virgil County High School Massacre. Three years since my best friend, Sarah, was killed in a bathroom stall during the mass shooting. Everyone knows Sarah’s story - that she died proclaiming her faith. But it’s not true. I know because I was with her when she died. I didn’t say anything then, and people got hurt because of it. Now Sarah’s parents are publishing a book about her, so this might be my last chance to set the record straight. Except Sarah’s martyrdom is important to a lot of people, people who don’t take kindly to what I’m trying to do.

Post Apocalypse from Covid Like Virus
Parents- PG13- kept pretty clean but the story touches on drug and alcohol use and abuse but shows the destructive nature of them, and a suicide
Language- none
Violence- some violence around civilization collapse but nothing very descriptive
Sexual Content- PG13- mentioned but not described sex, stays clean
For those not wanting to relive Covid in any way you'll want to avoid this one, but if you're looking for a post apocalyptic read for your middle school aged kids and up than this series will fit the bill. This one is about a young man named Caleb dealing with dreams that were smashed by the variant and is adjusting to new life after the crumble of the society that he grew up in, He tried to bury past sins and keep them from his family and lives with the severe regret and nightmares.... until a blackmailer targets him and his family. There are great messages about living with choices and their consequences, importance of friends, family and God. There is a Christian element, that I love, because it's not done in a pushy or preachy way. I would definitely let my kids read it.
Narrator- does a great job with the voice differentiation, I preferred listening at 1.35x speed.

forgiveness must first start in ourselves
I actually requested this audiobook, because i have read all the other books in the series (I was missing this one), even the prequel and i absolutely loved it, this author gives us very relatable and likable characters, each book is told through the eyes of a different character in the series, this one is told through the eyes of Caleb (Caleb is Jan’s brother, and we got to know her and her story in book 1) I actually did enjoy the story a lot, uhmm but more of than Death of honor I think it was a rebirth of honor, during most of the book, we know that Caleb did something really bad, and ends up doing some other bad things to cover this up... but we only learn what really happened almost in the end, true repentance only come if you truly confess and live with yourself with what you did, and that is a great step in growing up.
In the series this book was the first being told through the eyes of a male (and I really think the author nailed it), in all the other books the main character is female, Lizzie (prequel), Jan (book 1) and Olivia (book 3) these are young females, that have learned to live in this new world or lived through the end of old and that made their changes for this new world and even being similar they are different and all the books in the series have different moral themes and that is a big plus for me.
I Absolutely loved the person (Joe James) reading this audiobook, he gave a really casual feeling, he really brought Caleb to live and even did voices to bring to life all the other characters, I enjoyed this book very much.
Thank you StoryOrigin for the free AAC and this is my honest opinion.

Great book - Excellent Narration
I loved the story line, but really loved the narration. I listen to a lot of audio books and do not think any other narrator would work. The accent he used for Emma was spot on. The level of emotion made the story come alive.

Hidden Secrets
I enjoyed book 2 as much as the first one in the "Collapse" series. This book continued with the family's story, but featured more about Caleb's thoughts, emotions, and actions than the previous book. The story was engaging. The characters were caring and complex. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series. Joe James' narration was good and kept my attention. I was given a free copy of the audiobook, and I have voluntarily posted this review.
