Publisher's summary

Zachary Cannon joined the Navy to get trained as a radiology tech, a skill he could use to get a job and support his family after his enlistment. But the needs of the Navy take priority, and much to his surprise, he was given orders to the Fleet Marine Force as a corpsman to an infantry battalion deploying to Iraq. As part of a rifle squad in Ramadi, Zach joins the Marines on patrol, in assaults, and on security duty, facing the same dangers and hardships. Ramadi is a hotbed of insurgent activity in 2006, and Zach's medical skills are put to the test as he witnesses death and injuries. Faced with snipers, full insurgent attacks, IEDs, rockets and mortars, and the never-ending heat, he cannot be a simple observer, there to treat his Marines. Navy or not, he quickly realizes that he is expected to be a full member of his squad, a combat corpsman.

Very good story!

Very good glimpse into a very important role within the military that is not typically covered and also not well understood. This should be made into a movie!

Awesome book

This book brought back memories of my tour in Ramadi. Especially when the Arthur talked about Hurricane Point that was my home for 7 months.

The food was different because they had to bring it in containers from Camp Ramadi but hey it was a hot chow.

In the end I am glad that the corpsman decide to stay on the green side as they say when the Navy personnel serve with the Marines. Like the book says the Marines always take care of the corpsman because in return they take care of them.

Semper Fi.

it has its moments...

gets a little cheesy and unrealistic at times and the readers voices are the worst I have EVER heard but this is the only corpsman focused book I have found.

Not written by a corpsman, don’t be deceived

Many inauthenticities throughout the book and is a clear attempt to try to paint what being a corpsman is like through officer’s eyes. If you’re looking for authenticity move on.
