The Instant New York Times Bestseller by Co-Star of Fox's American Grit and Legendary Ranger Nicholas Irving.

Groundbreaking, thrilling and revealing, The Reaper is the astonishing memoir of Special Operations Direct Action Sniper Nicholas Irving, the 3rd Ranger Battalion's deadliest sniper with 33 confirmed kills, though his remarkable career total, including probables, is unknown.

Irving shares the true story of his extraordinary military career, including his deployment to Afghanistan in the summer of 2009, when he set another record, this time for enemy kills on a single deployment. His teammates and chain of command labeled him "The Reaper," and his actions on the battlefield became the stuff of legend, culminating in an extraordinary face-off against an enemy sniper known simply as The Chechnian.

Irving's astonishing first-person account of his development into an expert assassin offers a fascinating and extremely rare view of special operations combat missions through the eyes of a Ranger sniper during the Global War on Terrorism. From the brotherhood and sacrifice of teammates in battle to the cold reality of taking a life to protect another, no other book dives so deep inside the life of an Army sniper on point.

Also available: Reaper: Ghost Target and Reaper: Threat Zero, the first books in Nicholas Irving's thrilling series that Brad Thor calls "one hell of a read"!

Critic reviews

“A gripping account from a man whose lethal aim took out 33 Taliban fighters on one deployment, a record.” —New York Daily News

“Gripping.... Irving's book is a focused, fast-paced tale that, like Irving, never loses sense of its mission.” —San Diego Union Tribune

“This gritty, unapologetic look into the life of a special operations soldier recounts both harrowing and heartfelt tales from the on-the-job experiences of Irving...This account is perhaps not for the faint of heart, but it is sure to be intriguing for those who are made of less squeamish stuff.” —Library Journal

Being a prior sniper this is a fantastic story that includes all of the mental aspects of the job. I enjoyed the decision making process illustrated in the book. Glad he made it out, and glad he contributes like he does as a civilian.

Guts in War, Brains over guts

I rarely enjoy books on war as seen from the soldiers eyes. They're generally just too troubling, violent and mentally scarring.

This one is different. It doesn't shy away from the killing, but rather doesn't glory in the pink mist style of some modern war stories.

There's plenty of detail on the battles and the relationships between the soldiers is explained and the reader gets the sense of camaraderie of brothers in arms.

To give you an idea of how much I appreciated it, I listened to it again immediately after the first listen.

It is very well written, detailed and edited. I liked it a lot. My admiration for soldiers is fully realized.

Excellent well-told tale

This is a very real read in my opinion. It was written how it really happened no embellished or over glorified accounts of the events just the cold hard truth and that was enough. I enjoyed it and recommend it to those who know the price of freedom and especially to those who do not. Thank you for sharing your story Sir!

Story line was good and well told, there was some but not much bravado and braggart. I really like that in a book from a man who has done way more than I.

the narrator did a good job reading this.

Thank you "Irv" for taking the fight to our enemy and protecting our home front.

Great stories. Would have been better read by the author. Unfortunately the narrator sounds like he should be reading self help books, not action stories. 1.2x speed made it more tolerable.

Great stories. Needed a stronger narrator.
