About this listen
Travel is an excuse to challenge your beliefs and increase your perspective.
Telling travel stories is an excuse to discuss society, philosophy, the evolution of modern relationships, and the state of contemporary marketing.
From the secluded rice terraces of Mayoyao to the expat-friendly beaches of Boracay, Come Back Frayed is a collection of stories and essays written about and from the Philippines by full-time traveler Colin Wright.
The pieces in this collection connect isolated agrarian societies with those that have fallen prey to rampant consumerism, and draw a line between introverted, nonstandard lifestyles and the always-on connections that bind humanity together in the modern world. There's also some discussion about allergies, loincloths, and why cockroaches are so rage-inducing.

Story
Relationships have the potential to drastically improve our lives, or to sucker punch us in the emotional gut. Impactful as these interpersonal ties can be, it's worth the effort to become more familiar with them, question a lot of our default notions that surround them, and calibrate them to best suit our needs and those of the people we care about.

Story
Few of us take the time to consider. We act according to data acquired by viewing the world from a single perspective: our own. As a result, we don't always think to ask certain questions that, when answered, may benefit us greatly. We don't do important things because we never think them worth doing. We don't assess unfamiliar facets of life, even though such scrutiny might change everything about how we live.

Forget hustle harder. Forget a mandatory 5 a.m. wake-up. Forget outlining your life plan in six-month, one-year, and five-year spans. But some of us feel called to something else - something unseen, undefinable. Those hopes and nebulous dreams rest out over the horizon, beyond the chop and spray of the slate-gray sea that crashes at our feet. We know not how to reach those dreams; we know only that we must try.

Story
If every therapist and psychotherapist on the planet could repeat this to their clients, like a mantra, again and again, there would be fewer therapists and psychotherapists. Because it works. Very quickly. Realising that what you're worrying about and stressing over doesn't really matter so much in the grand scheme of things is the door to freedom and healing. And the little profanity 'F**k It' is the key to that door.

Story
A control freak looks for love (women who leave wet teaspoons in sugar bowls need not apply). ‘I haven’t woken up with a cup of tea by the bed for seven years. It seems such a small thing but it’s one of a thousand things I miss about having someone around to take care of me. I have spent my entire adult life getting things the way I want them and all I want now is someone to give it all up for.’ Jon Richardson. Is your filing faultless? Your CDs, apostrophes, cutlery all in the right places?

Good Food for thought
Seriously enjoyable, while making you put serious thought to what's really important in your own life and what you could, potentially, do different. It seems to further justify some changes I've made in my own life, much to the dismay of family members.
