Publisher's summary

Living a lie, Matthew 'Mattie' Alexander is exhausted. It's not easy to keep up the pretense, the deceit, but it's safer. Coming out to a world that so easily hates takes a courage he's yet to find, so he pretends - pretends to be into women - pretends to love being a part of the university's football team. It keeps him safe, hidden. Until he meets Julian.

From the moment they first meet, Mattie knows life is about to change. He's yet to determine if it is for the better or worse. Living life through laughter, Julian is lonely. Without the jokes, the humor, he would be living on the edge of depression. Succumbing to his controlling father's demands, Julian finds no joy in the path laid out before him. Until he meets Mattie.

As soon as they cross paths, Mattie has the power to drive Julian's man parts crazy with lust. But can lust be enough to help Mattie out of the closet and guide Julian into a happier place? Limits will be pushed. Rules will be broken. But it's only together that they will have the strength to overpower fear, fear of themselves, and fear of others. Just how far are they willing to go in the aim of coming out?

Loved it!!

I loved it just like the rest of the series. The series has a mix of drama, realism and boy does it make me laugh. I am purchasing each book in the series.

Heart warming

Aww, Julian..this was a great story of how Julian and Mattie got together. It was interesting to see a differenet side of Mattie after reading about him in the previous books.

Poor Julian had an awful childhood..you couldn't help but feel so bad for what he endured. Lila balanced the heavy emotional turmoil with some hot m/m sex so there's that..

Lovely quick read

Mattie & Julian’s love story

The author has written the back story for Matthew & Julian, who have been featured all along in the series. It is a romance with a HEA, but with MM, not the usual MF.
Evans & Casteri handle the narration well with an Aussie accent.

Mattie and Julian

I liked Mattie, his family, and how well he fit with Julian. His dominant side was a plus and it was nice to see that even though he was the younger he didn't fall into the submissive role. His back and forth on coming out was frustrating but felt accurate. Julian's over the top behavior was a cover-up for his pain and a middle finger to his controlling parents. Sometimes it was a bit too much. I felt like there were times when big pieces of the story were missing. I assume this is because I didn't read the previous books in the series. There were sections that felt contrived and way overdone; especially the ending. Again, this may be due to jumping into the middle of the series. I think that if the author had fleshed the book out more I would definitely give it a higher rating.

Audiobook: lovely narrator

Julian and Mattie

An amazing story about discovering one’s self and loving who you are. Julian and Mattie are absolutely adorable, and a little too hot to handle. I adored this story. Paul Casteri was perfect for this story, he was a fantastic narrator. I enjoyed listening to this charming story.

Enjoyable

I'll be the first to admit that a lot of the things in this book didn't make sense, but you know what, that's what guilty pleasure is all about. Sometimes you don't need the seriousness, the credibility to enjoy a book. And I particularly don't want them when you have migraine-hangovers. Those days I want books where I don't need to think, straight(ish)-forward books, no muss no fuss.

So, I didn't read any of the previous books before starting on this one. And that really didn't matter, it worked great as a standalone - until the epilogue that is. Then all these new people, that hadn't even been mentioned once in the book, showed up. It just confused it all. It was too much and didn't fit with the rest of the book at all.

If you, like me, haven't read any of the previous books, just skip the epilogue, know that they got their HEA and save yourself the confusion. If you have read them, you might enjoy the reunion, you can happily go on reading that last chapter. ;)

Paul Casteri did a really good job narrating this book and I truly enjoyed listening to him. And I will happily watch for more of his narrations.

Decent story. Decent narration.

Quick listen with good characters. Would have liked a bit more details and plot development, but haven't read/ listened the rest of the series yet.

sweet and okay story

ReviewThis was an enjoyable read. There were sweet, steamy and heartbreaking moments. Julien had a hard time being who he was in front of his family but he had a hard time staying away from Matty who was a 19 year jock in the closet. My heart broke for Julien at times and everything he went through with his awful family. Julien will do whatever it takes to keep his cousin from experiencing the same fate he did by being sent to their grandfather and things get worse with his dad before they get better and Matty is there for him every step of the way. This was an okay story but there were a few unrealistic things and some over the top cheesy moments. I didn't understand why a grown guy in his 30 was still living on his own was letting his father still beat on him and try and control his life. The narrator did a really good job portraying all these emotions even though his tone didn't change much between characters and all the characters pretty much sounded the same. I enjoyed the adorable and sweet relationship between Julien and Matty.
