Complacency exposes the perils of disregarding current global events and underestimating potential threats, drawing from his experiences in emergency management and cybersecurity to create an unforgettable tale that illuminates both preparedness and inaction - leaving listeners with an intimate knowledge of the potentially devastating repercussions of becoming complacent in an ever-changing, ever-more volatile world.

Complacency turns out to be a two-part tale. First, of how a well-planned and devastating series of attacks against the US is planned, carried out and reacted to. Second, of the stark reality of societal breakdown in a post-disaster reality. The overarching lesson here is in the title: complacency (as opposed to wise preparedness) severely deprecates your ability to survive any disaster.
As I finished this novel, the least complacent society on the planet, Israel, was caught off guard in an operation that contained many of the elements that Minyard warns about. It only serves to underscore Ed's warning and message. Beyond hurricanes, floods, earthquakes and solar flares, there are bad actors who want to create havoc or worse for their enemies. They are already among us in numbers that are sphincter-tightening. Live in denial and be complacent at your own peril.
Fiction or early warning? You decide.
