Publisher's summary
When recovering drug addict Lyle Pickering is found dead of an overdose, it looks like a tragic accident. But his sister Rochelle knows better, and so does Lieutenant Eve Dallas. Lyle was murdered, and the evidence points directly to his old street gang.
As Eve and husband Roarke track the killer through the city's dive bars, drug dens and strip joints, another body is discovered. With connections growing between the living and the dead, and the body count on the rise, Eve knows she needs to close this case fast, before the killer's lust for power turns the city's streets into a bloodbath.

Ryder, Garrett, Kenzo, and Diesel - The Vipers. Their deals are as sordid as their business, and their reputation is enough to bring a grown man to his knees, forcing him to beg for mercy. They are not people you mess with, yet my dad did. The old man ran up a debt with them and then sold me to cover his losses. Yes, sold me. They own me now. I’m theirs in every sense of the word. But I’ve never been meek and compliant.

Story
Obituary writer Nadine Barbault doesn’t mind being called “Lady Death”. It suits the ice queen persona she’s cultivated to survive the fast-paced Toronto Herald. So when Nadine learns that famous (and reclusive) author Dot Voline has died, she doesn’t hesitate to run the obituary…only to discover that Dot is very much alive. Nadine’s screw-up has brought Wesley Chen of the rival Spear no end of joy—she’s been a thorn in his extremely ambitious side for years. But the renewed interest in Dot also surfaced chatter about a mysterious past scandal.

Story
Hockey coach Ashley Jaswal doesn't take nonsense from anyone … except her overbearing and superstitious family. They believe she's a good luck charm for her brother Jas, the newest Vancouver Canucks draft pick, forcing Ash to attend all his games as he rises up the NHL ranks, sacrificing her personal life (not that she has one—who decided hockey season needed to be 10 months long anyway?). Ash also clashes with Jas’s teammate, Canucks captain Devin Snyder.

Story
After watching my mother succumb to a mysterious illness, I promised myself two things. I'd find the cure for what ravaged her and leave the godforsaken city where she abandoned me. Four years later, I received an acceptance letter from Dracadia University, one of the oldest most prestigious schools in the country. Nestled on a secluded island off the coast of Maine, it's rumored to be haunted by the souls of the mental patients exiled there centuries before, those whose bones are said to make up the island's white sandy shores. And restless ghosts aren't even its most daunting peculiarity.

Connections abound
The title says it all for this foray into the world of Lt Dallas.
Connections abound.
Like many of the Dallas series what should (from the villains POV been an easy "sell" gets overturned because Dallas and company look deeper) .
From the stand point of being part of the In Death series this is a good outing. From the stand point of character growth and development this one hits is out of the park. I admit I read the In Death series as much, if not more so, for the joy of watching Dallas mature, developing connections of her own that deeply root her to her city; connections, rather than her origin story point which was basically single minded copness. Dallas now, is deeply connected to the city because of the people she is connected with.
Another wonderful aspect, showcased very well in this book, is the plethora (in joke here) of other characters that fill the world. In Death remains the story of a full and vivid world with a great many characters who are the top (or near top) in their respective fields who interact to help each other rather than tear each other down. This wold has all the fundamentally people being fundamentally people but many of those people are strong enough to build up other around them. It a jot seeing competent people being competent without the fall back of "miscommunication" which is often the staple of tales within the generalized romance genre.
When do I get the next one? Just asking because I'm like Oliver with this series.... "Can I have some more, please, JD?"

Of all the In Death series, this one was above average for plot mystery and character development. enjoyable! Thanks to Susan Erickson- I couldn't listen if the narrator changed!

Nothing new
I have struggled with this series for the last several books. It wasn't a bad story just sort of repetitive. The narrator who is usually good with the voices, had a few that sounded just the same as the main character Eve. Maybe it's time to wrap the series up. Especially if they have gotten to the point of adding chimes to count to then direct you to the publishers website. Gimmicks aren't a good sign of a series doing well.
