About this listen

A single mother working in a thrift store. A gentle giant farmer who can’t find jeans that fit. When opposites attract, they find themselves making alterations in more ways than one in this smoking-hot short story by #1 New York Times bestselling author Tessa Bailey.

Evie Crowe is starting over in a strange town with her newborn, and men are the furthest thing from her mind. If only the quiet, hulking farmer, Luke Ward, would stop coming into the thrift shop and piquing her reluctant interest. Evie wants to stay single all the way—she can’t trust anything more than friends-with-holiday-benefits. But Luke is in it for the long haul. He’s fixed on making this a Christmas Evie will remember forever. If she gives him a chance.

Tessa Bailey’s Merry Ever After is part of Under the Mistletoe, a stirring collection of December romances that thrill and tingle all the way. They can be read or listened to in one swoony sitting.

Voices Make the Characters So Real!

I can’t say enough good things about the amazing work by narrators Summer Morton and Connor Crais. They completely expressed how Evie and Luke were both very “closed off” people who came out of their shells I be together. Of course Ms. Bailey’s writing gave them very expressive words to work with, and the result is a powerhouse of a story that includes everything one needs in a novella. Great work, everyone!

The writing. The story. The narrators.

Tessa Bailey can pack so much into a short story! I loved every second of it. This is a fun little story between a girl that works in a thrift shop and a hard working farmer. I loved this Christmas story! The narrators were excellent!

Sassy, Sexy Holiday Novella

Mary Ever After by Tessa Bailey is another easy win for me. Tessa Bailey consistently delivers, and this novella has everything I want in a holiday romance: sizzling spice, cozy vibes, and a heroine you can’t help but root for. Plus, the representation of a larger main character is such a win! Let’s dive in.

Evie, a single mom new to town, is focused on her son and getting her life together. Enter Luke: the town’s giant man extraordinaire with a protective streak a mile wide. Their meeting at the thrift store where she works is all about flirty banter and simmering chemistry—until Luke hears her son crying and bolts. Frustrated and confused, Evie tells herself it’s his loss.

But our sassy heroine doesn’t stop there. In a move equal parts defiant and generous, she finishes a pair of custom jeans she’s been working on for Luke and hand-delivers them, walking miles in uncomfortable shoes. She lets him know in no uncertain terms that her son is a blessing and if he can’t see that, that’s on him. Luke, meanwhile, has been chastising himself for lusting after someone he assumes is unavailable.

When they finally talk, sparks fly—both in their stubborn sass and their undeniable attraction. After he bandages her feet (swoon), Evie puts her son down for a nap, and things heat up quickly. Their chemistry is electric, especially when Luke makes it clear that casual isn’t on the table for him: “You’re my woman.” Evie’s mix of annoyance and arousal at his dominant attitude leads to her calling him “Daddy,” and let’s just say… Daddy Luke delivers.

This novella balances the sexy with the sweet. Luke’s care for Evie and her son is heart-melting, and their journey to a happily ever after is deeply satisfying. It’s the perfect blend of sass, spice, and holiday warmth.

Short & Sweet

Tessa knows how to set characters up & give them a scenario where we root for the HEA. Not only does this have heat, but it’s got so much heart.

Single mom FINALLY gets her dream husband!

This was SO cute! Single mom meets her Prince Charming, who turns out to be a hard working farmer. She’s hesitant due to her baby daddy abandoning them after birth. Will he over time prove his intentions are pure and he wanted nothing more but to provide for her and her son? Or will they be stuck as FWB? Definitely has a hint of spice. 🌶️

Short Christmas romance 💘

Very short Christmas romance with a HEA, I liked both of the main characters, but their inner dialogue was…different, not the worst, but not the best.
I give it 3.5 ⭐️
I felt the narrator’s did a really good job with the voices of the characters.

An ode to his monster Yule log.

Snork. This was OTT even for a holiday quickie. He’s telling her he’s gonna make her his and she’s calling him daddy on what I swear was the first day she stepped foot in his house.

This isn’t small town, big farmer romance; this is for anyone shipping a modern day pioneer woman and a dirty talking, self professed possessive “brute” who’s really, really big.

Did I take this remotely seriously? No
But do I regret listening? Heck no.
The dual narration sells this naughty nutcracker.

Cowboy novella

This was such a good novella for the holiday season. I loved the new to town single mother who captures the eye of the local giant of a cowboy.

Filled with laughs, some light romance and spice!

The narrators Summer Morton and Connor Crais did an amazing job bring life to these characters even with it being such a short story! But I can definitely say that I would love more Cowboys narrated by Connor it’s the perfect fit!
