About this listen

The thrilling ninth installment in the classic Martin Beck detective series from the 1960s - the novels that have inspired all crime fiction written ever since. In this penultimate installment of the series, Beck is drawn into a case that turns up mysterious echoes of his past cases.

Now head of the National Murder Squad, Beck is called in to a sleepy Swedish town to investigate a woman's disappearance. When she is found already murdered, her body dredged from the bottom of a lake, suspicions swirl around arrest Folke Bengtsson, the killer Beck caught in the first novel of the series for committing a similar murder, and who has since been released. But Beck is beginning to doubt that Bengtsson is guilty of any murder at all.

I thoroughly enjoy the laid back Martin Beck and his team. Easy reading and full of interesting twists and turns.

Another interesting and well told tale of crime and policing in Sweden in the early 70s through the eyes of Martin Beck and his colleagues in the Swedish police. Glad I found this series on Audible. One of the best offerings included in my Audible membership!

An outstanding police procedural
written by these talented two authors.
if you have not read this short series - you will want
to.
I started this volume long ago and did not finish it... it seemed gloomy slow. So I stuck with it all the way, letting the words weave their magic -the last 3rd of this book is FUNNY!

A rare book and series - 5

If there are only a dozen people in Sweden then I take back this review, but otherwise this was an awful book. I felt nothing at all for most of the characters, and the ending was very unsatisfying and unbelievable. No matter how much you like Nordic crime, don't waste your money or time on this.

How many people live in Sweden?

To me- a slow book and it makes the Swedish Police force sound like a bungling batch of dim wits. I just couldn't finish it.

Sooo Slowww

What disappointed you about Cop Killer?

It it so slow to develop. I finally quit after about 2 hours. I really tried to persevere and listen to the book. It is just plain boring.

What do you think your next listen will be?

James R Benn - Billie Boyle series: Evil for Evil

How could the performance have been better?

Someone who could actually speak with something other than a monotone voice. It was like listening to a chemistry lecture in college.

Slow and Mundane

Don't waste a credit or $$...not funny, not interesting, a pain all around. Perhaps something was lost in translation.

World's worst book, really
