Publisher's summary
What do the various covenants given throughout the Bible mean to us? Are they relevant to our lives? A rainbow now and then may remind us of God's promise to Noah, and we've memorized the part about the new covenant in Jesus' blood at communion—but do we dig any deeper?
Jonty Rhodes guides us in an engaging study of covenant theology and why it matters. With clarity and wit, he shows us how covenants carry the Bible's story from start to finish and ultimately give root to the gospel of salvation by grace. Beginning with Adam in the garden of Eden, and ending with Jesus, our risen Covenant King, Rhodes illuminates the good news of a promise-making, promise-keeping God.
Key topics include law and grace, union with Christ, baptism in the Spirit, predestination, and water baptism. Rediscover the Bible's unified covenantal story and its unfolding message throughout Scripture.

Story
The weight of glory is a happy burden. Thus God is the happiest Being in the Universe. To know Him in His pleasures is to see Him as He is - and to have a fresh encounter with His transforming presence. If you are hungry for this deep delight, consider the gladness of His great heart. The things that make God glad are the measures of His greatness. Christ and the cross. Choosing His people and bruising His Son. Creating the world and revealing His worth. The gladness of His people in the greatness of His glory.

What is Christianity? It is Christ. Nothing more, nothing less. Christianity is not an ideology and not a philosophy. Christianity is the Good News that beauty, truth, and goodness are found in a Person. And conversion? It's more than a change in direction; it's a change in connection.

Story
The central issue of Jesus' death is not the cause, but the meaning - God's meaning. That is what this book is about. John Piper has gathered from the New Testament 50 reasons. Not 50 causes, but 50 purposes - in answer to the most important question that each of us must face: What did God achieve for sinners like us in sending his Son to die?

Rich Reformed Doctrine Made Easy
Covenant theology is a concept often mentioned in reformed circles in hushed tones and criptic references. If you really want to be a reformed "insider" or a super-spiritual Calvinist, if there is such a thing, then you stand in the church halls and wisper about "the covenant". Well, this has been my experience. I've heard people talk about the extra blessings that "covenant keepers" recieve and the curses that hang over the heads of "covenant breakers" and really had no idea what this was about. However, the emphasis on covenant is prolific throughout the Bible, and in several places, the Bible is called the Book of the Covenant.
Jonty Rhodes does an exceptional job in this book explaining the framework of covenant theology and its relevance to our Christian life. He has done the hard work of streamlining the concepts from other massive works on this topic and tying everything into the scriptures. He also handles this topic with a love and concern for those who have struggled to understand this subject. Like a true overseer of souls, he presents a positive case for covenant understanding with an encouraging spirit.
This book has inspired me to live a life that more fully rests on the promises of God and one that honors our great Covenant Head, the Lord Jesus Christ. Jonty Rhodes' teaching reminds me so much of the beloved J.C. Ryle, and I am sure this book will soon be classic for the Chriatian community until our Lord returns.
