About this listen

The revolution that won Coyote's independence from Earth is 20 years past. Coyote's aging computers, aircraft, and medical equipment are badly in need of replacement. And the colony's survival is in question. Now the colony's hard-won independence depends on the descendants of Coyote's original settlers-versus help from Earth that may be more of a detriment than a boon.

Former freedom fighter Carlos Montero, now in his 50s and burdened with the responsibilities of leadership. Manuel Castro, the Savant and former Lieutenant Governor of New Florida, now a hermit who may hold the key to the survival of those whose company he has renounced. Jonas Whittaker, the genius inventor haunted by the loss of the wife and daughter he sacrificed to save. And Morgan Goldstein, an entrepreneur seeking to exploit Coyote's natural resources - even if it means ruining the planet itself. As Coyote's future hangs in the balance, a larger question looms: can the human race settle a new world without bringing forward the problems of the world it left behind?

Political SciFi

An interesting presentation of current problems set in the future and attempts not to repeat history. It holds the reading listener's attention.

Better narration, same narrator

All the Allen Steele books are hard to finish due to the narrator. Peter Ganim does a better job in this book, but he still speaks in a monotone that is hard to overcome.

Another interesting read

The story, while engrossing, is only a bridge, between the books before, and the books to ensue. Of course, that makes it a necessity...

hopeless narrators

anyone paid to read books need to know how to pronounce places like Gloucester (glowstirl and Thames (tames). neither narrator can do vocal variety and nor are they capable of voicing both genders. furthermore both have a vocal style as natural as an oral bowel movement.

the book is half and half decent and waffle.

narrators are woeful.

Great 4th Book!

I got hooked on Coyote from the first book. Each book is well written and has
Great narration. The Narration can make or brake a book. Allen keep writing!

Good Story, Not the greatest Narrator...

I wouldn't miss out on the story. I will continue the series. My only complaint is the Peter can sound a bit droll at times. I love some of the character portrayals and struggle with others, he's a mixed bag as far as narration goes. Gabrielle does a good job with Wendy's perspective as usual.

If you have listened this far you should listen to this next installment. It ties the story up nicely, and leave it open for the next trilogy and the new challenges for humanity in space.

Unhappy

Would you try another book from Allen Steele and/or Peter Ganim and Allen Steele ?

Never in this lifetime

What could Allen Steele have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

burned it

Any additional comments?

I am so sorry I purchased this book and the next in the series. Is it possible to give zero stars? I was on a 16 hour flight, hoping to listen to science fiction. Instead it was just bs about religion & environment. I can't remember being more disappointed. I erased them from my mp3 player and library as soon as I could. I remain angry that I paid for this and will make sure that my friends will not make this mistake.

in the Forward to the book the author states at one time he did not think he should write a third book in the series. Sad to say he was correct. This is a bad humans messed up the Earth a possible scenario however anyone with a basic understanding of weather understands that two continents both in the Northern hemisphere on earth cannot have constant heat in one and cold in the other at about the same latitude once this premise was raised the book went down hill.

Which character – as performed by Peter Ganim and Allen Steele – was your favorite?

Carlos Montoya
