About this listen

The remarkable new novel in the Doc Ford series by New York Times best-selling author Randy Wayne White. Doc Ford’s old friend, General Juan Garcia, has gone into the lucrative business of smuggling Cuban baseball players into the US. He is also feasting on profits made by buying historical treasures for pennies on the dollar. He prefers what dealers call HPC items - high-profile collectibles - but when he manages to obtain a collection of letters written by Fidel Castro between 1960-62 to a secret girlfriend, it’s not a matter of money anymore. Garcia has stumbled way out of his depth.

First Garcia disappears, and then the man to whom he sold the letters. When Doc Ford begins to investigate, he soon becomes convinced that those letters contain a secret that someone, or some powerful agency, cannot allow to be made public.

A lot happened between Cuba and the United States from 1960-62. Many men died. A few more will hardly be noticed.

The only thing RWW writes better than main character dialogue is the villains he introduces each novel. I HATED the villain in this book which means “mission accomplished”

So many great characters

Very entertaining. Fast paced. Lots of unexpected chuckles along the way! This book is Ford stepping back enough to allow for a little more Tomlinson. That's always good!

More laughs as well as action.

Story was confusing and almost pointless. Saved by George Guidall's narration. Have listened to whole series and this was not his best. For fans of series only.

Not White's best

I am really not well versed as I should be about Cuba, and because of that I wasn't as eager as usual to purchase the next RWW book. I was however delighted and "hooked" from the beginning. DELIGHTFUL and INTRIGUING!! Thank you Randy. Now get back to work on the next book.

I wish it wasn't over

Really liked this book as well as Goodell's performance. Well worth the listen. Brilliant imagination

Great Story Line That Will Keep You Spellbound

First time with this series , and unimpressed. Characters were mostly caricatures, and the plot moved in multiple directions with little coherence. Marion "Doc" Ford was supposed to be the main character, but seemed a minor player. Had to keep deciding if it was worth continuing to listen. Second half better, more focused, but still a 3-star at best.

Simply way too long to get going
