About this listen
If you missed the Love Serve Remember Retreat last spring with Ram Dass and friends in Hawaii, this is your opportunity to listen to the almost eight hours of dharma talks from the wonderful event. BetterListen! is quite proud to offer the complete set of these recordings. The BetterListen! version has been digitally edited and remastered - for your listening pleasure!
This program features Ram Dass, Krishna Das, Roshi Joan Halifax, Raghu Markus, Duncan Trussell, and Rameshwar Das.
Here are some of the heartfelt and evocative subjects covered:
- Ram Dass, Krishna Das, Roshi Joan Halifax and Raghu Markus introduce the Courage to Love Retreat. Krishna Das retells an entertaining and moving story about receiving a sacred seed from a Lama.
- Roshi Joan Halifax speaks on our ability to smile into the blessings of life while keeping an awareness of the truth of suffering. After a short guided meditation, she expands on the notion of keeping a “grandmother’s heart.”
- Ram Dass, Duncan Trussell and Raghu Markus discuss honesty and vulnerability as essential elements for cultivating the courage to love.
- Roshi Joan explores the three jewels of refuge. She discusses the way in which we become who we really are in the presence of unconditional love, and what helps “good karma” to ripen.

Deep down, most people think that happiness comes from having or doing something. Here, in Alan Watts’s groundbreaking third book (originally published in 1940), he offers a more challenging thesis: authentic happiness comes from embracing life as a whole in all its contradictions and paradoxes, an attitude that Watts calls the “way of acceptance.” Drawing on Eastern philosophy, Western mysticism, and analytic psychology, Watts demonstrates that happiness comes from accepting both the outer world around us and the inner world inside us,

In this lecture from 1975 "Stages of a Journey", Ram Dass discusses our journey through plains of consciousness and degrees of fate towards simplicity and quietness - to a kind of joy that is beyond time - a journey where we leave behind all our models of who we are. It is a journey that involves the transformation of our beings such that our thinking mind becomes our servant rather than master.

It is good but it is closer to 6 hours than 9, and while Duncan Trussel is listed on the narration he is not in it at all. He was not the main reason I purchased this, but it was disappointing.

A must read for healing
Words cannot express the wisdom that is shared throught this book, the narration is done by the actual writers which enhances your connection to the subject matter. This has helped me through very difficult times and its lessons will be with me forever. Thank you to Duncan Trussel and the Duncan Trussel family hour for introducing me to Ram Dass and Maharaji and long live the Midnight Gospel.

Good, not great. A few great moments.
It wasn't what I expected. There was two points to where they would say Ram Dass was coming up next and then they would cut to another speaker or maybe a different days presentation. I was bummed because I was really hoping to feel this through his words too. Knowing this was a last gathering before his passing I guess I just expected more of him. There is a some beautiful content so it is good but not great.
