About this listen

Jacky Faber, Bloody Jack, is back, and this time, she's facing a situation far worse than a ship full of murderous pirates. Curse of the Blue Tattoo, L. A. Meyer's sequel to the enormous popular Bloody Jack, is just as bawdy and entertaining as the original.Listen to Bloody Jack.(P)2008 Listen & Live Audio, Inc. it suddenly hit me that the fact I'm enjoying the book is that in spite of the many differences of time, space, and age, Jacky is in many ways a great deal like Stephanie Plum. In trouble, in love, doing the right things while not always doing the correct things, and just generally making you read on to see what calamity will befall her next. This wasn't apparent in BJ1 and although I enjoyed parts of it I wasn't sure I would continue on with the series, but I'm glad I did.

Although I read and enjoy YA books, I don't have a feel for the YA market - and am not really sure that if I had a YA at home I would want her to take up Jacky as a model. But I do recommend the books, or at least this one, to Evanovich fans.

I was about half way through BJ2 when...

If you are looking for a great narrator, this series is what you are looking for. Katherine Kellegren is absolutely fantastic. Her cockney accent is spot on, and all the voices for the different characters are very distinguishable.

The second in this series, though it can be read on its own.

The narration is flawless, beyond anything I would have imagined reading it on my own.

The book itself, set it 1803, is well written and has plenty of literary easter eggs.

I did not want it to end and am eagerly looking forward to the next in the series.

A pure delight

I truly think Jacky Faber is my favorite character of ALL TIME! Just as the first book in this series, Jacky is full of energy. She jumps into to things before thinking, or even if she does think about the circumstances feels the experience or the need is greater than the punishment.
Again, the narrator truly makes this book.
The book is funny, endearing, uplifting, exciting, heartbreaking all in one. I never got bored and opted to listen to this audio book rather than watch TV.
Just thinking of Jacky Faber and the troubles she gets herself into makes me smile. This is a natural antidepressant.

Katherine Kellgren is, without a doubt, the best performer/narrator I have had the pleasure of listening to in a very long time. Through her voice, Jacky comes alive with humor, passion and wonderful singing . All the character voices are right on the money and all different from one another.
Seems like Jacky can't stay out of trouble but she somehow manages to set most things right.
Time to reacquaint myself with Jacky. Downloading #3.
5 stars all.

What did you love best about Curse of the Blue Tattoo?

The story just is so easy to follow and listen to we use it to help with the long car trips and it just makes the miles slip by while we enjoy the roads we travel.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Jackie and Amy are a great pair in so much mischief and troubles as they blossom into young women.

Which scene was your favorite?

Jackie gets Amy to go to the pub with her to work.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

There are so many times we found ourselves laughing at the constant antics of Jackie that there is no one time better than the rest.

Great for long car rides.

Where does Curse of the Blue Tattoo rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

top 25%, in great part because of the marvelous narrator. A definite no-brainer, if that's your mood.

What did you like best about this story?

clever pacing up to the end when it kind of falls apart with over the top "solutions." Obviously, the heroine is being set up for a sequel--that's great--but the end still disappoints.

Which character – as performed by Katherine Kellgren – was your favorite?

Jackie, of course.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

a thrill a minute with no blood or guts or space creatures

Any additional comments?

Can't say enough good about the narrator.

swashbuckling female fun

Love this whole series. It's exciting and suspenseful and also teaches you a lot about history. I find myself looking up the historical events, people and places all the time. I am an older woman in my 50's and really enjoy Katherine Kellgren's reading of the books. She really brings them to life. But they also make a good read.

Great book, Great Series!!

Pick up this book as a potential for some preteen boys. With the hero being a girl I doubt this would appeal to many boys and there are many sections of this books not suited to anyone younger than mid to late teens. Not age appropriate for my preteen family but as a middle aged woman I'm loving this series and looking forward to the next one.

The narrator is a joy to listen to and she adds a lot to the story. I would recommend this book to anyone that enjoys action, humour and little historical fiction. It's nice to listen to a story about a female hero without having to endure a romance novel. its just simply a fun read.

Awesome narration. Great story.
