About this listen

After the events of Reyhome Castle, Henry Strauss expected the Psychical Society to embrace his application of science to the study of hauntings. Instead, the society humiliates and blacklists him.

His confidence shaken, he can’t bring himself to admit the truth to his lover, the handsome medium Vincent Night. Vincent’s new life in Baltimore with Henry is disrupted when a friend from the past asks for help with a haunting.

In the remote town of Devil’s Walk, old ties and new lies threaten to tear the lovers apart, if a fiery spirit bent on vengeance doesn’t put an end to them first.

Danger ahead!!!

3.5 Stars! I enjoyed this one a lot, what I didn’t like was the choice of conflict: a lie.

The lie caused much doubting and consternation and internal monologuing. I got tired and was just waiting for the character to fess up.

The ghostly mystery was great, however, as was the narration by Greg Tremblay!

only an author can critique an author

amazing adventure story but to my taste I could have done without some of the characters personal drama but that's me! Other than that I thought it was thrilling and I even had a nightmare of ghosts from my old home! My partner stroked my back and I never woke up so fast! But I know why the drama is part of the story I personally would rather do without . narrator is awesome and wish he narrated the widdershin collection

Great blend of mystery/spirits/romance/historical

Overall Series 2nd Re-Read 2019:
This is my second re-visit to books 1 & 2(Restless Spirits & Dangerous Spirits) and my first for book 3, Guardian Spirits and I loved them just as much as my original reads. Following the journey of Henry and Victor, as well as Jo and Lizzie, is such a treat and I don't think it will ever get old. Such amazing characters and incredible scene setting, well Spirits trilogy is really an all around package of goodness. For newcomers, this is a trilogy best read in order so be sure to start at the beginning to see how the four meet.

As for the narrator, Greg Tremblay, well I can't imagine anyone else reading them. Would someone else be as good and enjoyable? Of course, but after listening to Greg read Spirits, I really don't see anyone else doing the characters and their adventures to find the truth justice. A reading and listening masterpiece that will pull you in, tie you down, and not let go till the truth is found. Entertaining for years to come.

Listened straight through

I enjoy every encounter with the ghosts. I’m wondering whats going to happen, what new thing will Henry learn about all his equipment and will they run out of salt. They chemistry between Henry and Vincent is just the right amount. Jo and Liz are wonderful additions to the group and are a value to the work being done. On to book 3.

Enjoyable Ghost story.

I really enjoyed this second book in Jordan L Hawks trilogy. This is a wonderful atmospheric tale of hauntings, turn of the century spiritualism, romance and mystery. I love Vincent and Henry. Jo and Lizzie are great characters as well.
The story was fast paced and engaging.
Greg Tremblays narration is terrific.

Love it!

I was lucky enough to be able to listen to this right after finishing Restless Spirits, and let’s just say that I’ve had a really great day with many adventures, though I have to say that I did prefer the first book.

It’s been six months (or an hour for me) since we left the gang just heading into business together. Now that business is up and running and Lizzie and Vincent have moved to Baltimore. When we catch up with them Henry is presenting his inventions to the Physical Society in hopes of finally being accepted into their ranks and in turn help to launch mass production of his machine. Instead of being welcomed, his humiliated and banned for life. Feeling dejected and rejected he can’t bring himself to admit the truth to his friends and Vincent and the secret is eating him alive.

Vincent and Lizzie receives a summons from an old friend asking them for help with a haunting. Agreeing to help the gang sets of to the small town Devil’s Walk. When arriving they encounter a village in uproar, all of them scared by the spirit of a woman seeking revenge and has vowed to kill them all if she’s not given what she want.

As always I thoroughly enjoyed the plot, the haunting the world-building and characters. Some of it was a bit predictable, but not less enjoyable. What did surprise me, and not in a good way, was the “big misunderstanding” when something small turned into some huge dramatic thing that really could have been avoided with a single conversation. I did appreciate Lizzie’s level head, and I find that she’s not as prone to overreaction as the two men. As far as Lizzie goes I find her character intriguing. I mean being trans in the 1800’s can’t have been easy, and I hope we’ll see much more of her character in the future books to come.

Greg Tremblay is a true performer. It’s not news, I know that, but he’s just so amazingly talented that it bears repeating. He adds so much feeling to every sentence, every word that you never have to doubt what the characters are feeling. He makes you feel it. He makes you feel the horror and the fear whenever the spirits are near. He never misses – or if he does I haven’t experienced it yet.

Dangerous Spirits have been a great listen, but since it’s getting late I guess I’ll have to wait to start the next book until tomorrow, but at least I have the adventuress to look forward to.

Wonderful!

I greatly enjoyed both the story, and the performance. Perfectly balanced on both accounts.

Young Adult

Warning.
This is clearly a YA with a bit of sex.
the MCs are pretty immature and constantly makes the same mistakes again and again. they never learn and do not develop as the story goes on.
ad to that the writer have an aversion to the words he, his and him, and clearly ought to have written this book in the 1st person, i am not sure how i got thigh it.
a lot of patience and breaks was necessary to be sure

Henry.....

are we *supposed* to hate Henry? I've played the series twice now and I forgot how insufferable he is. t
There is putting your foot in your mouth and making bad choices..and then there's Henry. In the last book he was completely awful so many times and was forgiven for some reason. Then, right out of the gate in this book, he's already unbelievably stupid and toxic.. Vincent could do better
