About this listen
Dark Skin American, is a thought-provoking, insightful, and deeply inspiring memoir. It is a liberating resource for black youth who want to break free from the molds placed on them because of the complexion of their skin. Journey with me, as I provide a glimpse of the experiences that shaped who I became. I reveal the struggles, unfair treatment, and abuse faced because of my darker complexion. But this isn't a one-sided story. I also share my triumphs. Despite many negative experiences, I fought the odds to become a well-rounded human being, capable of weighing all sides of the stories, as told by the diverse society in which we all reign.

Throughout the book, Ziwe combines pop-culture commentary and personal stories that grapple with her own (mis)understanding of identity. From a hilarious case of mistaken identity via a jumbotron to a terrifying fight-or-flight encounter in the woods, Ziwe raises difficult questions for comedic relief.

Story
An insightful, candid, and inspiring memoir from Karamo Brown - Queer Eye’s beloved culture expert - as he shares his story for the first time, exploring how the challenges in his own life have allowed him to forever transform the lives of those in need. When Karamo Brown first auditioned for the casting directors of Netflix’s Queer Eye, he knew he wouldn’t win the role of culture expert by discussing art and theater. Instead, he decided to redefine what “culture” could - and should - mean for the show. He took a risk and declared, “I am culture.”

Story
Tim Scott, an African-American US senator, and Trey Gowdy, a white US congressman, won’t allow racial lines to divide them. They work together, eat meals together, campaign together, and make decisions together. Yet in the fall of 2010 - as two brand-new members of the US House of Representatives - they did not even know each other. Their story as politicians and friends began the moment they met and is a model for others seeking true reconciliation.

Well Done David
When I started listening to this book, I was surprised and inspired by the wisdom expressed inside of it. I then went to take a look at the author. I expected to see an elderly person who had a lifetime of experiences that enabled her to share what she had learned. Grab this book and enjoy.
