About this listen

For the first time, Edna Cowell Martin—cousin of Ted Bundy—tells her story of growing up with Ted, living in Seattle during his murderous spree, and learning the horrible truth about the man she thought she knew.

Growing up in Seattle in the 1950s and 1960s, Edna believed she had a perfect childhood. She ran barefoot and explored tide pools in Puget Sound. She had a concert pianist father and traveled the world with him on tour. She grew so close with her cousin they were more like siblings.

Her cousin was Ted Bundy.

Like a white tapestry interwoven with a single red thread, Edna’s story has been irrevocably impacted by her relationship to one of the most infamous serial killers in history. From living in Paris as a child to joining the skydiving club in college, Edna took every opportunity to see life as an adventure.

That is, until she found herself grappling with an impossible truth. She’s wrestled with intense betrayal, fear, and guilt, and struggled with questions of family identity. Full of exclusive, never before told accounts and handwritten correspondence from Ted, Edna has kept her story to herself for fifty years.

Now, she’s finally ready to share it.

Thank you for sharing your story…

I am one of those true crime people. I have been interested in true crime since my teen years. I have moved from reading about individual serial killers to seeking out survivor stories. For example, I recently read Kathy Kleiner Rubin’s book, A Light in the Dark. I have found that survivor stories are so much more. I have always wondered about the “why,” like, I’m sure, most people do. Now, I wonder about the “how,” as in, how do you get past the chaos of all of it? I am so appreciative of your bravery and willingness to share. It has truly added a positive light in the fog of so much horror.

Just when you thought you heard everything

Just when you thought you’d read everything about Ted Bundy, along comes his cousin Enid with an intimate view of her beloved, like-a-brother cousin and the inner calamity caused by the her discovery of his true nature. Certainly worth a read for those of us who spend time trying to spot the monsters among us. Fascinating. I read it in a day.

Powerful Story.

A powerful story that gives another side to the Bundy story, not one we knew we needed but a welcome one that left me wanting even more from the author not even more about Bundy but about her life. My favorite book of 2024 by far.

Sounded more like the authors biography

There was way too much about the author and her life and story- it was really distracting. I found myself frequently wanting to fast forward to get past her personal stories and get to the part about her life with Ted Bundy.

Loved how the story was written and developed. Edna had great courage to share her story and did it with care and dignity.

Narcissistic, Name dropping, Thoughtless Memoir of a family Capitalizing on their relationship with Ted Bundy.

I found myself listening to a pedantic telling of this woman’s life that her family’s only real claim to fame was their relationship to Ted Bundy and she and her family for whatever reason is capitalizing on that. Endless stories of how her father did this and that and how assertive she was… the incident with her mother being ill.. she didn’t have the brains to call an ambulance herself at 14… really and she wove in a tale about how southern male doctor just gave her pills and her school principle admonished her for missing school and a diatribe on southern politics… on and on… and her daughter researching at the University of Washington was so capable at going through the rolls of microfiche and was better than the librarian. Seems the family at every chance to drop Ted Bundy’s name they did. …from her husband’s jury duty incident to her daughter’s out with friends. Every chapter digressed into a diatribe of how great her family was with little empathy for the victims of Ted Bundy. All in all the whole book was a narcissistic telling of her story with an emphasis on her driving abilities.

Not very good

I couldn't finish this book. I have read a least a dozen TB books this is the weakest. From what I read way too much frivolous information. A waste of $14...

Bundy book more about the author than Bundy. Awful writing. Boring

HORRIBLE book; don’t waste your time or money. The author doesn’t understand what it i it is for. She fills 80% of the book up with boring, irrelevant details about her own life. The fact is she has one or two stories to tell about Bundy, so all the rest is filler. DO NOT BUY.
