Instant New York Times Bestseller

“Compelling. . . . Blum capably maintains the suspense and thoughtfully probes into the motives of key players in this intriguing yet profoundly unsettling story.”—Kirkus Reviews""

The definitive, inside story of the Idaho murders from acclaimed bestselling author Howard Blum, whose groundbreaking coverage of the story was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize.

Timed for a trial that will capture national attention, When the Night Comes Falling examines the mysterious murders of the four University of Idaho students. Having covered this case from its start, Edgar award winning investigative reporter Howard Blum takes listeners behind the scenes of the police manhunt that eventually led to suspected killer, Bryan Christopher Kohberger, and uncovered larger, lurid questions within this unthinkable tragedy.

Reminiscent of the panoramic portraiture of In Cold Blood and The Executioner’s Song, When the Night Comes Falling offers a suspenseful, richly detailed narrative that will have listeners transfixed.

I am almost finished listening to this book, and must say I’m impressed. The author did a lot of research in putting this book together, and it shows. That wasn’t easy, he explains in the introduction, because of gag orders and other obstacles. But he persevered and the result is this book.

I have been following this case pretty closely, and I find true crime fascinating in general. But I learned some things I didn’t know, including some background of the alleged perpetrator. Info about the town of Moscow and university life, especially its “Greek life,” added interest and local color.

This selection is much better than another one in my library dealing with the same subject matter, in my opinion. This has more factual info and is better written, definitely worth the credit!
The narration is spot on.

Best book so far on Idaho tragedy

After I finished. I felt like I was expecting more. But it really has nothing to do with the book. It’s just the timing of it. Other than hat, it wasn’t like a lot of other true crime books that bombard you with details and facts. It was just enough. Would definitely recommend reading.

Good listen!

The story was hard to follow the details on some characters was somewhat disengaging overall and at times while listening I wondered why the topic shifted so vastly from the main characters of this tragedy.

A bit disappointing

True crime story with lots of detail that ends up going nowhere. Can get to nowhere without reading this book.

Incomplete

I could not put down this book! Why are we so fascinated by these horrible events. Please people, learn to be kind, engage with other people. You may be the one to help someone.

Very compelling

It is very intriguing. Shocking the trial is taking so long to start and the house has been torn down. What was his motive I just don't get it still have a lot to be uncovered or said.

Interesting to hear it laid out

I think this is not a complete book, the writer should have waited until the case was over. The book just drags on without much substance.

Good narration, but the story is underwhelming

I thought that this audio book was excellent and I liked that the author dedicated it as a Requiem to the four young people whose lives were tragically taken!!

So well researched and thorough

This is a must read for anyone who is following the murders of the four beautiful Idaho students. Blum is an amazing author and I feel like he brought us the closest thing to the truth that is known at this point.
