About this listen

Half-werewolf, half-Aedh Risa Jones is beginning to believe that the only way to find the keys she’s been searching for and save her friends is by dying. And when Wolfgang Schmidt, the lover of her boss at the vampire council, is found dead, her worst fears are confirmed. With the first portal of hell permanently open, the energies of the dark path are leaching into the world. Searching for Schmidt’s killer and the keys at the same time, Risa and reaper Azriel track a shape-shifting spider spirit capable of changing her form into a seductive woman. But when they finally find the second key, the Aedh Lucian snatches it and disappears. Risa is intent on finding Lucian and fighting him to the death - for in her mind, she knows that neither can remain while the other lives....

Worst ending ever

I loved these books, well if you can discount wanting to shake the dumb girl every now and then. After the ending in this book I don't even want to listen to the next. I can't believe she is just throwing away to one thing that is true and good in her life.

Just Disappointed

Not sure why so many on Amazon are giving this 5 stars. Not sure what Keri Arthur is thinking these days. Maybe she's becoming like Gena Showalter and no longer interested in the details of the relationships in her books. While I'm all for a great story line I also read these books for their love interests and how they ultimately come together. After reading page after page and nothing more than hints about Risa and Azriel's growing relationship, we get a rape scene with more details than the love scenes. WTH? On top of that, Risa can't seem to make intelligent choices to save her life....literally. A sign of that was the bad feeling she was having up to entering the warehouse, yet she does it anyway. A bigger sign was the ending. It just blew me away. She gives Lucian the benefit of the doubt a dozen times and one perceived mistake on Azriel’s part signifies the end. Talk about ungrateful and small-minded thinking. It was over the top. Beyond all that you have the meandering of Hunter’s schemes which add nothing to the story line. You also have the incredibly strong, intelligent family members better equipped to deal with the situation yet she keeps them in the dark. I loved her Guardian Series, but have felt cheated since the start of this one. She never lets Risa grow nor learn from her mistakes. She doesn’t let Risa have the intelligence to reach out to those who might know more than she does. She writes Risa as weak minded and weak acting. Risa is a far cry from Riley Jensen. This series is just a shadow of the Guardian Series. By the end I was totally done and have decided I will not buy the rest of the series. Maybe if it comes to my local library and my disappointment has abated, I’ll listen to the final books. Maybe.

don't bother

What did you like best about Darkness Unmasked? What did you like least?

I have read the previous books, I like the main character, she has spunk.

Would you be willing to try another book from Keri Arthur? Why or why not?

Yes, I would - while not the best she is a good author and most of her books are a good READ. not listen - Read.

What didn’t you like about Saskia Maarleveld’s performance?

Her performance absolutely ruins the book, there is no life to the reading, huge silences and pauses where there shouldn't be, no connection with the characters, I simply couldn't connect the sentences to the action of the moment because the delivery was so bad.

Was Darkness Unmasked worth the listening time?

NO - until someone else reads it for Audible - which is unlikely, just read it for yourself. you will enjoy it more.
