Publisher's summary

In Darwin's Radio—a cross between the chilling scientific credibility of Michael Crichton and the cutting-edge technology of William Gibson—a terrifying disease forces scientists to race against time to save civilization—if it is not too late.

The discovery of concealed remains in a mass grave in Russia forces top scientists to question everything they believed about human origins. For molecular biologist Kaye Lang and "virus hunter" Christopher Dicken, it means pursuing a mysterious flu-like disease that has been dormant for millions of years—and is now coming back to life. With the world threatened by a deadly epidemic, they must solve an elusive puzzle and find a way to prevent the next terrifying step in evolution.

Fascinating concept, Great reading

I loved the unabridged Book on Tape version, so I bought this to refresh my memory before listening to Darwin's Children. I agree that it is greatly abridged, but it was well done. My daughter absolutely devoured it. And the reader, Stefan Rudniki, is fabulous, even better than the very good reader of the original.

Provocative

Greg Bear has invoked his genius once again by creating this wonderful thought provoking masterpiece. It confronts you directly, and forces you to consider the possibilities. It makes you question real from fiction. You find yourself asking what if. I was thoroughly entertained and mentally challenged as well. This is why I enjoyed it so much, because its topic was both enticing and riveting. Masterfully orchestrated, griping you all the way to the end.

Far too abridged.

I later read the full book and really enjoyed it. However the book contains so much detail that is lost in the abridgment. I'd recommend waiting for the unabridged version or reading the book.
