About this listen

This is the first novel in the Smart Women, Dumb Luck romantic thriller series.

Nexi Ketts has reinvented herself-new name, new look, new life. She makes her living catching corporate cheats - partial atonement for dear old dad's embezzling ways. A fling with a handsome cop ends badly when he tries to kill her. She flees, naked, causing a fender bender, and making it damn hard for Detective Barry Gerton to think clearly. A second vicious attack convinces Barry the secretive Nexi, who has her very own FBI dossier, is the target of a professional assassin.

Determined to protect her, Barry unexpectedly falls in love. Nexi yields to the same sizzling attraction. Trust is another matter.... Nexi has secrets to guard. And Barry's been burned before. Yet once the couple lands in Jamaica, trust is no longer a luxury. Amid the trappings of paradise, they need each other to survive a heart-stopping, cross-island game of hide-and-seek and a harrowing descent into the depths of Dragon's Throat cave.

Is there anything you would change about this book?

Better editing as this had the making of a good listen. Perhaps it was a bit too long. The author or editor should have curtailed the story in places that made the story drag on a bit too long. This had the humor, mystery, and romance as promised, but at 7 hrs, enough already. Note: I am not a 25 hr listener so you have to choose for yourself. This had fun great parts and a good outline.

Would you ever listen to anything by Linda Lovely again?

No, this is not for me. Our heroine had the brains and our hero had the making of a hunk, but for some reason, it did not translate in my listen. This had a good plot and mystery, but again maybe the editing could have saved this one for me. This had a 80's feel ie: "Stewardess", but also had the term ground zero. The romance was there, but it did not hold my attention, kinda plain like the 80's. This story did not make me want to purchase book 2 or 3 when they arrive, but they maybe for you.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

KC is may have an AKA, as she sounds familiar, but I am not going back through my library to try and pick her out. I purchased this book as I wanted humor and a new reader.
KC had the pace down, but she just could not pull off making our hero very hunky. Not sure if it was the editing or not. There was humor pepper throughout the story, but KC made it sound like a complaint instead of the humor it was meant to convey. Again, editing or the reader, just not sure.

Do you think Dead Line needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

Well, not for me. I have over 50 books I have not even had a chance to listen to yet, so I would not even give book 2 a glance at downloading.

Any additional comments?

This is a safe, good listen. If you get it on sale, and you do not mind a bit too long...then enjoy

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, I have already told people about a great new start to a series. It was fun read how Nexi would get out of the next scrape she had. Even though it wasn't her fault she had kills after her. It kind of puts me in mind of a Stephanie Plum book, and they do referrance Stephanie Plum in the book. I more see Barry as Joe than Ranger as he said in the book. He is too sweet of a guy to be a Ranger.

Fun, adventurous romance
