About this listen

For Lady Eleanor Swift, Paris means champagne at breakfast, romantic walks by the Eiffel Tower… and her deadliest case yet!

Newlyweds Lady Swift and Detective Hugh Seldon are honeymooning in the most romantic city on earth. Clifford, her butler, has come along for the trip to make sure everything goes to plan for the happy couple. And Gladstone, the mischievous bulldog, to make sure it doesn’t!

But the pair are shocked when, just as they are toasting their new marriage at the best table in their hotel’s opulent restaurant, a man tumbles through the glass roof and lands amid the silverware and coq au vin. Before he dies, he presses a striking pearl brooch into Eleanor’s hands. She has the strangest feeling of déjà vu. Has she met this man before? All too quickly, the local police arrive and immediately accuse the new Mr and Mrs of working with the victim–a thief who’d just robbed the museum down the block.

With her new husband by her side, Eleanor races to clear their name and discover who would kill to get their hands on the unusual brooch. Following a clue about a doomed love affair takes the gang from the famous cabarets and cobbled streets of Paris to rubbing shoulders with the aristocracy at the very top of the Eiffel Tower.

But soon Eleanor notices a mysterious man in black following their every footstep. Is he friend or foe? And can Eleanor and Hugh unravel the case before the City of Light becomes the city of death?

An utterly charming golden age cozy mystery set in Paris. Fans of T.E. Kinsey, Catherine Coles and Lee Strauss will adore it.

Verity bright outdid herself this book. It was fun, funny, engaging, twisty, heartwarming, and romantic. I cannot wait for the next book.

This is starting to tie everything together!

I do not wish to spoil for any other readers, BUT… this may be my favorite of the entire series. (However… I’ve said that before!😂)

Again, the narration is flawless! I adore Clifford… the rest you shall have to enjoy for yourself!!!

I always enjoy the adventures of Eleanor, Clifford and Hugh. The banter as they solve serious murders is such fun, if one can have fun dealing with a crime.

I did mis her ladies and Tomkins, but taking everyone on their honeymoon would have been too much.

The story was engaging and the narrator, as always, were excellent.

surprising and delightful

so happy that this book has been published for us to enjoy. to me, it speaks to the volume of love and support going out and coming in from the authors family and all of us, the readers, listeners who have enjoyed and will remember all lady swifts mysteries in our hearts as we mourn the death of one of her authors. I have loved this series for many years. if you have never read or listened to this series go back to first book and do them in order. sit back and enjoy the ride they take you on! sending prayers and love to family and friends still grieving. thank you for another great story.

I cannot adequately describe the mix of feelings I experienced as I listened to the latest Lady Eleanor Swift release. As usual, it made me laugh. Few can equal Eleanor and her dear butler for wit. It made me happy to see Eleanor and Hugh on their honeymoon. The mystery would give Christie, Sayers, and Doyle a run for their money. The other characters evoked a variety of feelings, as intended, and Eleanor even recovers some memories from her childhood.

This book also hints at some potential changes to the main characters' lives and possibly even more to come on Eleanor's parents. There is such promise for future books, but then I remember Laura isn't here to fulfill all the promise, and that makes me incredibly sad. Regardless, this book deserves its 5 stars, and I am hopeful that there are a few more tales not yet published.

If you are a fan of the series, do pick this one up, and if you haven't read the series, do start at the beginning and read the books sequentially. They are well worth your time.

Well done, Verity Bright!
