About this listen

For fans of Deanna Raybourn, Tasha Alexander, and Andrea Penrose...

Step into 1897 Victorian London: Unravel Love and Intrigue with The Tabitha & Wolf Historical Mystery Series, where Mystery meets Romance with a splash of Humour.

Tabitha was used to being a social pariah. Could her standing in society get any worse?

Tabitha, Lady Chesterton, the Countess of Pembroke, is newly widowed at only 22 years of age. With no son to inherit the title, it falls to a dashing, distant cousin of her husband's, Jeremy Chesterton, known as Wolf. It quickly becomes apparent that Wolf had consorted with some of London's most dangerous citizens before inheriting the title. Can he leave this world behind, or will shadowy figures from his past follow him into his new aristocratic life in Mayfair? And can Tabitha avoid being caught up in Wolf's dubious activities?

It seems it's well and truly time for Tabitha to leave her gilded cage behind for good!

The story is good. The narrator has a relaxing voice but not enough to put you to sleep. The characters are slightly One dimensional but they have enough personalty to carry through. I will say, when there is a difference of opinion between the the MFC and MMC there is little discussion. In most books, the back and forth between the man and woman is where we get to see their true nature and build some tension. Wolf and Tabitha are almost too agreeable in a way. In all, I enjoyed it but it wasn't a book that i struggled to pause when needed.

I am always on the lookout for a good cozy historical mystery, and I just found this gem. I am already in love with Tabitha and Wolf, and look forward to getting to know both of them so much better, as they pursue their investigations and gently snub their noses at London society.

The narration is excellent.

I loved the delicious blending of modern themes on a days of yore story. There was suspense, romance and culture in the right amount to make me think of television series or Movies.

The narrator did a wonderful job giving it the feeling of a bedtime story. I like how the author delved in to the characters backgrounds and stories to make the interesting and come to life.

This was fun and even bought a few tears to my eyes. I was intrigued to discover who the murderer and villains were.

A Proud Woman is the first in the Tabitha and Wolf Mysteries by Sarah F. Noel. Set in Victorian London, newly widowed Lady Chesterton, the Countess of Pembroke, is awaiting her husband’s cousin Jeremy Chesterton, (nicknamed Wolf), to take his place as the new Lord Pembroke. Rather than resuming her quiet life, Tabitha gets involved in Wolf’s investigation of theft, murder and other unspeakable crimes. I enjoyed the story and the characters. The title characters are likable individuals with progressive views. The writing is good and the story ends with the promise of another mystery in Book 2. The narration by Vicki-Jo Eva is excellent. Her performance brings all the characters and story to life. I received a free audiobook code for my honest review. Can’t wait to read the next book!

This author is new to me.
I very much enjoyed this new first in series mystery.
This story take place in the late 19th century. The characters are well developed and the story line is out of the usual historical romance/history. The focus is on the mystery.
Tabitha is a very strong heroine and she can match Wolf in every way.
If you enjoy in depth mysteries you will enjoy this one. I was captivated until the very end!

There are triggers. Particularly about children.

This book was an ARC and this is my honest review.

Good Book First in series

This novel has a special warmth of heart I really loved, and yet it deals with some of society's darkest activities. The mix of endearing characters from Victorian London's various social classes combine with a surprising storyline that keeps you guessing. I can't wait to read more from this author.
