About this listen

From USA Today bestseller Ava Harrison comes a sexy new standalone romance novel. I needed to get away. My ex was getting married. So, I left.

The English countryside was a picture-perfect escape. The dashing stranger an even better one.

And what started as a chance encounter quickly became more.

He promised to show me how to live, how to feel alive and forget a past best forgotten. He made me believe things could be different.

That was until I found out who he was...he was Oliver Blackthorn. The 16th Earl of Lockhart. Thirty-third in line to the throne. And a liar.

Deceit, not what I thought

I love Shane east. His voice and how he tells a story. So I was really looking forward to listening to this book. The female narrator had a voice like a robot there was no inflection, no emotion, her voice was completely dry! So I could not emotionally attached to the female character at all. The book was a complete disappointment to me. Shane East was wonderful In his portrayal of the male character. But it was sad that he had to have a partner who didn’t know how to interject emotion while reading the characters part.

The narration is brilliant!!

Diversity is the spice of life. Unlike another reviewer who couldn't stand the narration my perspective is that these two narrators saved the story. Lucy is good, Shane is brilliant. The British aristocrat is a bit of a stereotypical prig with a stick up his nether regions but that two-dimensional characterization is no different than the sexist cowboy with a heart of gold or the lonely billionaire who needs a special someone, characters that inhabit most romance novels.

As the other reviewer, who despised the narrators advised, let the reviews guide your opinion...just read them all.

Oh what a tangled web we weave...

Holy Guacamole! This book gave me so many feels...sometimes I wanted to shake the crap out of Oliver then sometimes it was Addison!! A true sign of a good book for me is when it riles me up!
Addison Price needs to get away from NY...her ex is getting married and she is devastated. As the female CEO of a multi-billion dollar company, she’s expected to be tough and emotionless. That’s why she heads to the English countryside, under the guise of survey some undeveloped land that her father had never discussed. While on her trip, she meets an intriguing Englishman and the pair have a fling. Addison opens up to this stranger like non other before...she’s never had the opportunity to be unguarded...never had someone interested in just her, not the family fortune.
Lord Oliver Lockhart needs a break from his hectic life and demanding mother so he heads to his estate in the country. Of course his mother is blathering on about the land next to the estate and his need to stop the owner from developing. He meets a beautiful American woman at the pub and has a good time with her. He is shocked when he realizes that his American is the woman that his mother wants stopped. Olly decides that the best way to gather intel is to befriend Addison...he doesn’t count on the unmistakable chemistry and that he will lose his heart.
The thing about lies is that they are eventually exposed and there are always victims, regardless of the best of intentions.
With Oliver’s lies exposed and Addison nursing a broken heart, can there still be an HEA in store? Or will Addison truly move on and marry another man?
There are so many emotions elicited by this book that you’re going to want to have a glass of wine and a box of tissues on hand.
Great job by the narration team, that really immersed you in the story.

Good book

This is a really good book with a really good story line. The male narrorator Shane East is amazing (as always he could read anything and make it sound sexy) female narrorator Lucy Rivers not so much. She sounded like a robot at first but then she got better but she really sounded horrible doing the other voices.

SCRUMPTIOUS

I love Shane East!! I will tread most anything that he narrates.. I read Conceal first, however this was written before Conceal. I loved Conceal. but this book was too long. I've read some books that Lucy Rivers has narrated, but some are hit by and miss.

The Narration is TERRIBLE

I returned the book because I couldn’t tolerate the narration. It was so horrible—and I am not usually very discriminating, as long as the quality is ok. Maybe Kindle would be a better way to enjoy the story. But you will regret ignoring the reviews if you buy it.

Classic Ava Harrison

If you have experienced Ava Harrison's work then you know her stories always have a web of intrigue and some themes might not be mainstream or popular, but this story is spot on what she does best. I am not a fan of certain themes and choices she made in the story, but overall as a listener and fan of hers I get where this story goes and these characters are so flawed, which makes them real. You go through a rollercoaster of situations and emotions and the narrators really captured the essence of their struggle. The casting is an excellent choice and I enjoyed their performances.

I enjoyed the story and loved Shane East...

The female narrator, Lucy, seems incapable of producing a man's voice that isn't cringeworthy.

Addie and Olly

They are so adorable. This book had me hooked from the moment I saw Shane East was a narrator for this.
This book had me laughing out loud a lot and really getting into what Addie was going through when you know (no spoiler) read to find out. Those two were adorable the moment they met. This book is definitely worth the read
